I feel the Beijing Olympics is very exciting as they had a fantastic opening ceremony as a good start. Also, they are winning many gold medals and trying to prove themselves to the world how they are trying to produce good quality talent. Also, the fact that China is finally opening up to the world and is becoming a competitor of the USA and Europe and Japan. I think China can help boost the profile of Asia even more!! Many world leaders have been in attendance here so not only is it an athletic event but a political event. I think this has changed the face of the Olympics as now China has some strength in their athletes. So this will help each country to strive even more to outdo each other! I think London has a very 'tall' order to deliver for the next Olympics. Thanks, what do you think?

  1. No. It's not about the opening ceremony it's about how you play and with all the speculation about judging, scores and so forth in China, I'd say London can easily beat them.

  2. No, my favorite was when we had the awesome basketball "Dream Team" at the 1988 Olympics!!!

  3. I don't think London has much of a cultural background as China.

    So I think it may be a bit harder, since China put so much culture into their opening ceremony. So I think London will have a hard time topping it, but its possible.

  4. Each Olympics is getting more and more exciting with the passing of time. No doubt China is winning more medals, but that is precisely the very idea of Olympics, to outdo each other, setting new world records... China is also opening up to the world and fast becoming a superpower. many leaders were also seen in the opening ceremony as was every other Olympic events in the past. China has a wonderful team of athletes, and so does every other country that have proven itself one way or another in the Olympics. Apart from this, things are still very superficial to its core; with its infamous human rights record, religious persecution, treating its athletes like 'robot' in order to win more gold, once it has lost its value, 'it' can easily be replaced by another...and yet another. As to the question whether China could boost the profile of Asia...I'm not so sure what do you mean by that, since every country has its own self-interest to serve, it doesn't matter whether that country is situated in the north, the south, the west, the east, we are all living in the same world. If you are thinking just because china is emerging fast, and the entire Asia should b proud of that, should we also be equally sad about North Korea?

  5. The opening ceremony was better than the rest, but they had issues such as pre-recorded fireworks, lip syncing girl, and the issue of some of the Chinese gymnasts being under aged.

    @Ashlee

    I do not believe that the judges were biased in gymnastics. Canadian, Australian, Japanese judges favoring China over the USA? yeh right!

    If you want something to blame, then blame the new scoring system - 1/3 of the points are from difficulty and the rest are for execution. Failing the landing will make you lose less than 1 point.

  6. Everyone of the many Olympics I've watched has been good.

    Each has had their own unique touch.  It's great that it's held

    in a different place every 4 years.  That way the rest of the

    world gets a fresh perspective of a different people, a different culture.
