It's been a long time since they won the cup and it doesn't look good for the years ahead.

  1. I am a Leaf fan and I hate the Habs, but still I can't understand your facts.

The Canadiens came in first place in the Eastern conference last year, with a very young team and a rookie goalie.  The Habs have one of the greatest hockey minds in Bob Gainey.

Maybe the last Habs Stanley cup was not in the recent past, but it was not that long ago.  How many have the Flyers won since then? Zero.  How long has it been since the Pens won a cup?  Around the same time as the Habs, give or take a few seasons.

I guess being a Leaf fan, the Habs don't seem that bad.  But unless you are a Redwings fan, I don't know how you can dump on the Habs.  The Stars haven't won in a while, the Rangers, Canes and  Lightning have barely been able to make the playoffs since their last cup.  How sad is that...to go from heros to zeros in one season?

I would imagine the ghosts of the Canadiens would be happy with the direction the habs are going in right now.

Now if the Leafs could only shake some of their evil spirits...

  2. How does it not look good in the years ahead? They have a Brodeur/Roy in the making, good leaders and youth. They can sustain themselves for the next decade or so.

  3. When you really think about it, what the Canadien's franchise has done in the past isn't that spectacular.  They won 13 championships during the original 6 days.  Odds of a championship were much better, plus there was no draft.  Most of the best players just played for the Canadiens.  The first four Cups after the first expansion teams was basically a 4 team playoff.

They did have a good run from '76-'79 with four straight Cups where the league was starting to take shape.  But other than that since 1980 they are just a normal team like every other team.  Only two Cups, mostly because of Patrick Roy.

They will NEVER be as successful as the old days, because things are WAY different.  Back then they got all the great French Canadiens.  Now all they draft is mediocre French Canadiens.

  4. yah they had a good chance this year. but they should probebly take out there wallets and get someone good on their team
