After watching the breathtaking opening of the Bejing Olympics, One could not help but notice that China showed the world that they have arrived on the world stage, with a party not even Hollywood A-list stars could rival. This brings me to my question China showed the world just what the are capable of, they have business affairs in more than 40 countries in Africa, have been opening up business deals in South America, and in many schools China is being implemented as a must learn language. Do you think the Chinese language will become an important language in the world future.

  1. Yes. China will be the top world power, above the US in 5 years. Chinese has a couple languages (Mandarin and Cantonese). Both will be important. They do represent 1/5th of the world's population

  2. China has been on the world market for years and they didn't even know it! One of them invented gun powder and spaghetti and I think even paper! So if you want to learn Chinese then go ahead! By the way intelligence has never been isolated to just one country or nationality of people! The only reason China is so on it is because they took advantage of cheap labor in their country and the surrender of Taiwan back to the chinese from the British! Their country is still Communist and that makes it a dictatorship and that form of government sucks! Think about never being able to have any reason to be inventive because you'll never get anything for it because the government gets it all! F that! Capitalism sucks also because there's no form of law governing the rich over the poor and this too is a form of dictatorship! I think you'll be better learning more math or business than the chinese language!

  3. very likely -- not short term -- but say in  30 years!!!

  4. yes you also see an increase in asian studies programmes around colleges in the west

  5. Hopefully not I'm too lazy to learn another language especially one with different characters.

  6. Yes, because China will grow and prosper and with 1.3 billion people it will be a huge market for world goods. It will be as important as the US within the next 20 years.
