Do you think the Cubs are the only NL team that could possibly beat the AL in the World Series?

I don't see another team that is as complete as the Cubs. Out of the NL teams they have the best rotation, one of the better bullpens, the best offense, a deep bench and a great manager. If they don't make it to the World Series I think you can just hand the AL the trophy.

  1. I think so...but I don't think it will be easy so don't get your hopes up...The National league vs the American League in Intlg play is towards the AL (199-103)

  2. They had a loosing record in interleague play

  3. i love the cubs cubs rock like h**l man

  4. The AL will win the WS again this year. Almost no reason to even have the NL play in it. And the cubs certainly won't make it to the WS.

  5. I think the Cubs are the NLs best. But its possible that the Brewers, with CC & Sheets on their game, and their big bats going good, could surprise in a short series.

  6. The Cubs are a complete team,I agree, but the Philiies and/or Dodgers are scrapy teams and often times those are the kind of teams that surprise you in the post-season

  7. The AL does have good teams, there's no doubt about it, but there are other teams in the NL that have a pretty good chance to win the WS.  The Phillies aren't too bad of a team, and they've got a lot of talent.  I wouldn't count them out.  It also depends on which team from the AL is in the WS. Just remember, any team, on any given day, can beat any other team, maybe even 4 times outta 7.

  8. Hands down the Cubs are the best team in the NL.  They could match up with anybody right now and win.  The Angels or anyone in the AL does not scare the Cubs right now.  Confidence is at a premium and Soriano is on fire.

The great thing about the Cubs is they are starting to distant themselves in August.  We all know the home schedule is in full swing this month but we must wait until September.  In the month of September the Cubs have the fewest home games in the MLB (9) and the most road games (16).  The Cubs are going to need all of these victories now because they will be tested into the final week.  Did you know that earlier in the season the Cubs actually put in a protest because of the scheduling in September.  Obviously it didn't do anything, thats why it is crucial that the Cubs continue to win.  The Cubs must keep the momentum into the Fall.

If we start to break down other teams you will not find any NL comparison to the Chicago Cubs top to bottom.  This team was built to win for now and the future.  If the Cubs do not make the World Series all of the critics will continue the curse talk and blame something extravagant.  But if they do make it then all of the credit will go to the players, GM, and of course Big Lou.  I truly believe they are poised for the World Series this year and the only team that will beat them is themselves.  I can honestly say the AL may have to worry this year because the Cubs are legit.

BTW the Rays, Red Sox, and Yankees will beat themselves up and wont have the pitching in the end.

Mets, Phillies, and Marlins, way too inconsistent and will fade without leadership.

NL West uhhhh I'll take a pass (stinky)

White Sox and Twins not while Konerko, Griffey, and Ozzie are still there.  Twins still too young and outside of the Dome not so tough.

Angels are legit but still are missing something???

Brewers and Cardinals will fight for Wild Card and pose no serious threat except when Prince comes charging at you!!

"You ate my last Apple Pie!!!"

  9. someone said maybe the mets healthy martinez?  Go look at how he has been doing lately then think about that again... for th NL the only team that would be able to win the WS would be the Cubs.  As for the AL... its going to be the Angels... and if they somehow dont make it, it will be Tampa Bay.  boston and the yankees are out this year.

  10. There's no way you can tell. Just because a team is complete doesn't mean a thing. When it comes down to the ALCS and the NLCS just because a team has it all doesn't mean they will win in a short series. Need I remind you of the Cardinals in 2006. Or the Rockies last year. How good were they but they didn't win the World Series. Sorry, to break the news to you Cub Fan but like they say it aint over until the fat lady sings

  11. Don't count the Phillies out!!

  12. The dodgers with manny, the Mets with a healthy pedro and an accurate throwing david wright, and even the Phillies could upset the Cubbies. I also think that any of those teams could surprise the AL host.

  13. It just depends on who brings their gloves and bats to play some baseball. You have to take in so many variables, too. Someone already said that the Cubs test comes next month in September, and that's true. The momentum that they ultimately will or won't gather can make or break them. We know they have the confidence and swagger to knuckle-down and win games at Wrigley and also know they're not so good on the road. Going on the road for the majority of the month next month is going to say a lot about the kind of team they are, so, to be safe, they should pad their lead in the central as much as they can.

Even though momentum's good, it's not the only factor determining who's going to beat up on who (i.e. the Rockies last season). The entire season's stats are completely erased because in all honesty, it's a new season. Records and stats don't mean anything at that point. The only thing that matters is which team can buckle down and win ten games when it matters.

That being said, I am optimistic about the Cubs' chances this year. The offense is amazing. Even if you have Lee or Ramirez in a slump, you got Derosa and Soriano to pick them up, and vice-versa. The starting rotation is solid with Zambrano, Dempster, and Harden. I'm still a little worried about Lilly and Marquis. The bullpen's above average, but certainly not the best, with Wood, Marmol, and now Gaudin holding them up. Right now, the way things look, they're definitely the team to beat in the National League, and hopefully, by the end of October, we can finally say that they were the team to beat in all of baseball to FINALLY end this drought.

  14. The AL handsdown will rock the NL. I'm not saying this just because I'm a Yankee fan. But it Tampa Bay doesn't win, it may be another victory for the red soxs (ugh) and even perhaps the Yankees who are rocking at this point.

  15. No one knows. That is the reason they play the game. There is no point in  discussing this because any team, if given the chance,  could beat the AL in the WS. I do think, however, that the Cubs have the best shot.

  16. This is true...Although we gotta make it to the World Series to challenge them (You guys can take that sweep by Tampa Bay and shove it up their ****s because the Cubs were beat up (without Soriano and Edmonds and Zambran's shoulder was messed up) and Tampa was at home and hot so that means nothing.

I do believe that anybody can beat the AL team because this game is a game of whos hot and i believe any team who is on a hot streak can beat the AL altho the Cubs have the best chance

Lets take time to compare the Lineups because we know the Cubs pitching can compare to any team in the league

The bests players from each position combined with these teams (all AL contendors that Cubs might have to face in the WS if they get there) Cubs, Angels, Rays, Red Sox

C: Geovany Soto (Just beat Dioner Navarro because of his leadership skills and his nice .280 batting average is just the icing on the cake (he can get very hot tho so dont be surprised if that average rises)

1B - Mark Teixiera (Beat out Derrek Lee by a little for the fact that he hits more home runs and his average is up there near Derrek Lee)

2B - Dustin Pedroia (Hands down best second baseman altho Mark Derosa isnt that far behind)

3B - Aramis Ramirez/Chone Figgins (Tie because they both bring unique attributes to their ballclubs....Figgins is a speedster, a catalyst and gets the Major's best team going....Ramirez is a power hitter and the Cubs really need him if they are going to make it to the WS

SS - Ryan Theriot (Gets on base with walks or hit and is the best SS out of the teams)

LF - Alfonso Soriano (There is no doubt for who is the best player here...He is the heart of the Cubs who will drive in runs and get on base.)

CF - Jim Edmonds/Reed Johnson (The 2-headed monster beats out Jacoby Ellsbury and BJ Upton...Call me biased, but Reed Johnson has been one of our best players and Jim Edmonds has been that left handed power hitter we needed.

RF - Vladimir Guerrero (This guy steps up when needed and is the best Right Fielder)

The Cubs have the best bench which may come up big with...

Reed Johnson - Comes off the bench and straight PRODUCES

Mike Fontenot - He just ambushes you (as Len and Bob like to say) because hes small but the little dude can pack a punch

Ronny Cedeno - A little bit of a streaky hitter but he will come through for you

Henry Blanco - Mentor of Geovany Soto and a good backup catcher who can also hit some

So now that we have broken it down a little, its clear the Cubs have some of the best players on the teams but things on paper will not win the games...The Cubs need to produce and prove me right if they want to win the Championship

In conclusion, I think the Cubs by far matchup best with the AL but if I had to choose a second, I would say the Phillies

***Sorry Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees, I dont think the Sox can beat the Angels or the Red Sox and the Yankees may have just all but dropped out of the race with the loss of Joba Chamberlain

  17. Yes i believe they are. They are the only team that has the pitching to stand up to the american league. the national league has a bunch of good offensive teams (marlins, phillies, brewers, cardinals), but none of them have both starting pitching and a good bullpen to shut teams down with.

  18. without a doubt

  19. the cubs have the best chance by far! but the mets or phillies i personaly think could beat the AL! dodgers look alot better with manny

this is finally the year not next year !

    go cubs

  20. the marlins!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. No one can beat the Angels in the World Series.

  22. The Cubs are the most likely team from the NL to make it to the World Series.  They have an excellent home record and should easily be the #1 seed in the playoffs.  Their biggest problem is when they get to the World Series, the AL will have home field advantage (thanks alot Dan Uggla!!).
