I mean, this land has been the heart and soul of Serbia's Eastern Orthodox Christian roots for centuries (long before muslims from Albania, Turkey, & elsewhere congregated there). Even though frictions and tensions have existed between Serbia and the west (UN, NATO) over Serbian actions in the Balkan Wars of the 1990s, that era is over. Milosevic, along with his infamous paramilitary leader associates, are gone. Democracy is flourishing. Should the west still be "tweaking" Serbia by pushing for Kosovo independece?

  1. I am utterly divided on the Kosovo issue. I have been through a pro-recognition and an anti-recognition phase; I am agreeing to disagree with myself (no I am not bipolar, I am just crazy).

It is interesting to note that the Albanians had a population majority during World War 1 in 1914. I don't know how long you can continue to claim cultural heart and sole, that is where I am stuck presently.

Btw as a political theory, I think 'nationalism' is stupid and outdated.

  2. No

  3. The words 'automatically' and 'without a hearing' are in direct opposition to the principles of democracy to which both the EU and the UN are dedicated. Kosovo should never be recognized as a separate entity, in any kind of scenario - for all the reasons you stated, and many more. One administrative being the decision that "no changing of borders" should take place any more. Well, seems it's a very selective approach the EU is adopting and the opinions, even laws are very easily bent when it comes to Serbs.

  4. Yep. Too late for hearings, they should have done that years ago. The hearings have been held on the world stage, and nothing the EU or UN says about after all this time really matters.

  5. The UN (general assembly) is a joke. Their "recognition" would mean nothing, especially with Russia holding a permanent seat on the security council.

The EU will do what is in its best interest, which means it is unlikely to recognize Kosovo in the near future.

  6. yes
