Yes it is embarrassing that the 'suppossed' World Champions are now ranked 7th in the World. I feel the likes of Romania, or the USA have more quality & drive, and deserve to ascend to the 1st tier

Sir Clive saw this all coming and quit while he was ahead.  The only way they could win is to have players that only play international rugby and nothing else.  I think they chould be unless there are dramatic changes in the system.

Yes they should be demoted at least that could guarantee a win or two. Its their own fault they rely on huge forwards and backs who kick and cannot catch and their wonder boy Johnny spens more time in the infirmary than on the pitch. Winning the world cup was a one off when a competent group of players all peaked at the same time. Didn't the England football team do that once also in 1966 and look what became of them.

Ranked at 7 and if they played to that ranking, it would put them in the quarter finals,can you serious see Roumania/USA getting that far,these 2 teams will be lucky to get out of their groups

Ahh, another fair weather friend. Yes, at the moment England are playing dismal rugby but I bet U were cheering when they were winning. They are still world champs and as such deserve the respect. I am from the Southern Unions and we still count England as one of the major contenders next year. Stop whinging and show some loyalty and support.

I'm not English but I do follow rugby. Sir Clive in his goal to win the world cup didn't introduce 'new blood', kept the same players. Many of the famous team have since retired. Leaving behind a team, which basically is starting from scratch. They will bounce back, it's just important to keep depth in you squad, like NZ.

There is no second tier. There are two international groupings; the "Six Nations" of which England will always be part and the "Tri Nations" which should accept Argentina but are too insular to do so. I see no prospect of any other European team joining the "Six Nations" - Romania are way behind the necessary standard. The southern hemisphere is different and Argentina could be joined by the "Pacific Islands" so creating a "Five Nations" in due course - if the All Blacks stopped nicking their best players that is!

It is nonsense and ignorant to suggest that any team in the Six Nations or in the Tri Nations could be or should be demoted.

The amount of revenue and publicity it generates for all northern hemisphere teams is very important for the future of the professional game...(and I'm Welsh).
