  1. It is just fiction and fun. Do you feel Harry Potter was based on true events also?

    BB

  2. A parallel world or universe is by definition one with which we cannot have any contact in any way shape or form. Anything happening in a parallel world stays there, and we cannot ever know anything about it.

    So, short answer: no.

  3. no, it's a fictional stuff

  4. The parallel world portrayed in the film was one where metaphysics and witchcraft was the religion.  The golden compass itself was a divination device.  There were witches which had familiar spirits like all other humans in the movie did.  This is highly indicative of witchcraft overtones in the movie.

I would say that this book/movie was in fact written to rebuff C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia book series because of the many common elements.  The author is critical of CS Lewis.  C.S. Lewis was a Christian, and Philip Pullman, the author of the Northern Lights book which the movie is based, is not a Christian.  The movie is rife with witchcraft and magick to those that can see it.  It is only a book and movie.  Only the author knows what inspired it.

    John S, Roger Zelazny rules!!!

  5. I would go with this being an "athiest Narnia". Not that

this is a bad thing, by any means. It is a fiction series.

If you like to read this sort of stuff, Harry Potter and

the like, but are more grown up than these books,

    I would recommend

"The Great Book of Amber" by Roger Zelazny.

  6. I read it was written because the author wanted to have a series of atheist books because of C.S. Lewis's Christian Chronicles of Narnia trilogy.

  7. Well, I certainly don't believe that we all have guardian "daemons" versus guardian angels. The fact is that evil does exist in this world; when Satan was thrown down from Heaven, he was relegated to this earth and it is here that he wreaks havoc until his final overthrow at the end of the age (we are in those days, believe me!) If there is a parallel world, it is not heaven-inspired and is probably the handiwork of Satan or his evil angels (1/3 fell with him at his upheaval) It may exist, but I don't think that it would be a good thing. I guess we'll have to wait, be good, and ask the Messiah when he returns (which will be soon!)

  8. There is neither reason nor evidence to believe the Golden Compass is based on a parallel universe.  The author didn't claim this to be the case.  In fact, the author is very much down to Earth.
