and receive answers, they're all pretty much color blind. I say this because I can be whoever I want to be on the Internet, but ultimately what will count is what I have to say. For instance, I can say I'm a 30 year old Asian male, but that may not be who I really am. I can put up an avatar which might suggest I'm a black female, and so on. But, it really doesn't mean a thing. However, when I read someone's words, that's how I know them and "see" them. I really like that. I have no idea about any of the people who have answered my questions, yet I can appreciate the words they have shared and the opinions they have. It's a truly color blind experience. Or...am Ijust being naive?

  1. Most people are good, however you will be canceled from Yahoo Q+As so fast for all sorts of reasons, which I'm sure includes non PC responses. So I imagine this is not as open as it may seem. I've read of quite a few alleged citations for no valid reasoning.

  2. I don't think you are being naive.  I have noticed that some times the answer fits the avatar and sometimes it doesn't.  Quite often there is no avatar.  I like the level playing field in the realm of thoughts and ideas.

  3. I think you're right about that.

Although, there's also a negative to that. People who hate others can easily ask racist and offensive questions without having to really answer for it. They can say things to people that they would never say in public.

So it's sort of a double-edged sword sort of thing.

  4. I think the internet lets you do what you want to do.  If you are curious about other cultures, the internet allows the world to become your oyster.  If you are a racist or xenophobic, then you will use the internet for those interests.  I don't believe that the internet will change a person's beliefs, just enhance what is already there.

I have always said that since the advent of the internet that ignorance is now a choice.  You can choose to learn or you can choose to reinforce your ignorance.  You are not held back anymore by opportunity.

Perhaps you are a little naive, but I sincerely hope that you get to remain that way! ;-)

  5. agree. I think internet helps to understand each other.
