  1. They should have got in before the titans. I would say no it would not work. I thought Canberra was a good option, when the raiders started there most people didn't think it would work but they succeeded almost immediately and are still well supported with average crowds of 13000.

AFL is more popular there than in other league dominated areas and let's face it, Canberra is so boring there is not much else to do than go to the footy.

Obviously they looked into and decided not to go there but I feel it is a better option than Gold Coast.

  2. As a roos supporter, I can say that I would continue to support them and encourage my daughters to do so.

I'm sure the AFL would have to kick in yet more money to keep us above water.

I'm not sure that the North have much option really but to take the punt - surely they can't just keep ticking over like they are now.

Ever since I was young (now 29) I can remember that we had no money - even with the magnificent team of the 90's.

  3. I think they would survive, especially now with the coach they have. Laidley wanted to make sure he done the right things by the team and the club. By wanting to ensure the players and the team had better training facilities and by putting the team and club first it then has an outcome on performance. The way the Kangaroos played last season, I think the QLD people would enjoy watching them play there.

However, I agree with Jem too ............. They would have to be known just as the Kangaroos, which in turn wouldn't make the die hard loyal North Melbourne fans happy.

  4. The AFL are offering a number of sweetners to the team that does move there - priority picks, exclusive rights to local kids, financial help etc so survival should be possible.

  5. they already are just the kangaroos

    there not north melbourne anymore

they changed there song and all so thats not a problem

supporter base is though. too many rugby teams in queensland to have 2 afl teams.

i think maybe a move to northern territory would be alright. tasmania are mostly hawks fans as they play 3 games a year there. maybe canberra would be ok.

  6. nope

  7. If the Kangaroos went to the Gold Coast, they would have to gamble on Q/land people supporting them,by creating a new identity.  Especially as North Melbourne, as far back as I can recall, has not had a huge supporter base.

This possibly occurred because North Melbourne, as a city is close to Melbourne city and therefore does not have a high residential population. It is made up of predominately factories, offices, and other businesses.

The supporter base is mainly around the suburbs further north, and those supporting Oak Park football Club, where some players were recruited from.

Survival is complex, and in many cases it's luck if a long standing club relocates elsewhere.

  8. right now no- if they had done so beofre the titans (league) went there I think they might have had a chance, but now to bring afl into the mix in a predominately league town , I think they would struggle

Frankly if they were smart they would look at a move to tassie or the territory purely based on supporter numbers

  9. plain and simple NO,it would be like having another rugby league side here in Melbourne it just would not work, even the Brisbane lions with all their success are having financial difficulties now their run at he top is over and with the titans already their i think they missed their chance-if their ever really was one?? i mean 8,000 to the games they did play up their was hardly going to provide financial security or constitute an acceptable crowd number.
