  1. I have no idea!  It bothered me too.  I could easily see mistakes, and I am definitely not trained to see every little deduction within the sport.  The Chinese were very shaky in many of their events, yet still received higher scores.  The NBC announcers noticed the same thing, and were highly astonished at the results as well.

I'm sure that it will turn into a big problem in the future.

  2. I agree.

A few of the scores seem a little ridiculous.

    Like with the bars.

Nastia seemed flawless but the Chinese girl seemed to falter a little bit.

They need to be the same with all the gymnasts.

    It isn't really fair.

Like with the Chinese girl falling on her knees on vault and still getting a pretty good score.

Maybe the Chinese are better but the scores are not really fair.

    RIDICULOUS.

  3. unexplainable

  4. Some Bugger.  You are wrong.  The USA is the best at everything.  No country can match our superiority or our success.  Show a little pride would you.  BTW, yes I am arrogant, and rightly so, when it comes to my country.

  5. It is because of the start values and stuff. But just because it is in China doesn't mean there r more Chinese judges. I think most of them r like American but in the all-arounds Nastia got gold and Shaun got silver.

  6. Whether you're talking about gymnastics or diving, degree of difficulty is very important in judging scores.  If both gymnasts make the same mistake, the one with the higher degree of difficulty will surely score higher.

If you are watching on NBC TV and coming up with this conclusion, seriously, stop, because the commentary is going to be biased.  If you are watching online with no commentary or commentary in an incomprehensible language and coming up with this conclusion, you'll need to understand that there are a lot of subtleties in the events that they are relatively hard to pick up on.  For instance, angle of entry in a dive or just a slight difference in timing is hard to pick up on in a split second, but is much clearer on instant replay.

Also, recall that the international judges are all neutral, and none of them are Chinese.

Until there is huge controversy from neutral sources such as the Paul Hamm debate in Athens 2004, don't fall to confirmation bias.

  7. My theory is that China has the entire olympics rigged to make the world think that they're the best.

When in reality, they got child labour, extremely low quality electronics, disease, filthy living conditions... i could go on, but that would get my account banned for being racist.

  8. I DO believe that they are rigged, not only because China was caught having a 14 year-old play in the olympics but also, becauseof some other things...

  9. The judges in figure skating in 2002 were "neutral" as well.  That doesn't mean they can't be bought off.  I would love to hear the judges explain how two routines with the same difficulty, one only one obvious flaw (a step on the landing) and the other with several obvious flaws (3 balance checks, lack of continuity, step on the landing) get the same score.

  10. I don't think it's rigged, they're just somehow finding tiny mistakes to make deductions on while China's tiny mistakes aren't being noticed. I don't get it either. It's poor scoring, but I doubt it's rigged.

  11. I'm not sure if "rigged" is the right word.  But I question their scoring.  Especially in the mens.  The USA deserved more than a bronze.

It seemed that no matter what flaws the China men did they continued to score in the high 15's to 16's.

China said before it started they "HAD" to win.  The coach was going to jump off the highest buidling in China if they did not get Gold.

To use a quote I once heard, "it was so obvious Stevie wonder could see it".

  12. It's amazing how these people asked such idiotic questions. When you read articles all around the world, including the ones within US - every single one commented on how well China did on gymnastics (both men and women). Please stop being whiny babies and act like you're from a civilized country. You had the courage to criticized China of labor conditions, bad living conditions, poor quality electronics, and what not when you should look in your own backyard... Have you even been to China? Shanghai? etc? Have you checked your Sony's, Canon's, Sharp's etc - most of them are MADE IN CHINA. It's truly depressing when you think that people here are so called educated. Get your facts right before you comment.

  13. Why don't you ask those judges, nobody here would know the reason. Whatever the reason, U.S is still leading currently, so have faith. I don't know if we're talking about the team event or individual. The team event, China won fairly. The individual event is the one I'm a little suspicious with on the scoring...

  14. I am from the USA and I understand that we are not nor have we ever have been the best in every event, but there have been some serious disparities in the judging of the women's gymnastics this year.

China won the team event fair and square, they straight up made us look like fools. But the individual events have been ridiculously scored.  The girl falls to her knees and gets gold.  Nastia Liukin was completely robbed of the uneven bars gold, the whole games have been a completely Chinese Imperialist nationalist parade.

Looks like China bought the Australian judges.  Anyone who watched the games should know that Liukin is the true uneven bars gold medalist.

Also, as far as the person who said look in your own backyard, we may be doing some sketchy stuff in our country, but I don't think it comes close to what China is doing in Tibet, to its Children and to the environment.  Not to mention all the Chinese gymnasts are underage.

  15. maybe u just jealous cause ur country is getting beaten in this olympics

  16. i'm not sure if they are rigged but i do think in some events such as the single vault Alicia Sacramone should have won the bronze, the chinese girl fell on her frickin knees and used her hands. during the all around they were giving out crappy scores to us Americans and amazing ones to people who didn't perform as well. wtf is up with that?

oh and im not trying to defend the usa team because im american but it just not fair how they went upon scoring it

  17. How can people like you be educated is the main question.

You don't know how to count scores, you can't be a judge.

Degree of difficulty is included in their points. Points can be awarded. Of course, deduction for mistakes.

If you don't know, don't make a fool of youself, please. Grow up.

  18. USA - 1 fell off the beam, 1 landed on her *** and 2 stepped out

CHINA - 1 fell off the beam, 1 stepped out(need to confirm)

as you can see, your still an *** =)

  19. what kind of a question is this, even if it was,how could any yahoo user confirm or prove this claim here??

  20. The judges are from different countries.

  21. No it's not rigged. There were NO judges from China or the United States judging the All Around Competition. It was a wide assortment of judges from different countries. There were a few observations that a certain judge (that is not Chinese) lowballed some scores for Nastia over the last week.

  22. No.

  23. No, i think China's Gymnastics outperformed US this time in the team competition.

Why are you ranting anyways, US's Natsia won the individual gold medal.

  24. No they are not rigged.

  25. So, unless the USA are winning everything it's rigged?

  26. china are the best at the gymnastics this year...just because the usa is not that good doesn't mean it's rigged...america isn't the best at everything, you know
