  1. NO ! ! of course not. They have been embarrassingly amateurish from the start. the scene was open to anyone for hours, it wouldn't surprise me if the cleaners went in before forensics. The initial officer in charge was three parts cut all day, and by the time they had bogged him off and put someone sober in charge, it was too late. All the evidence had gone. I would imagine after a shocking exhibition like this the E.U. will appoint a body to look at members police forces, E.U. citizens should have the right to at least reasonable policing when travelling about.  This is not the first time by far, that foreign E.U. forces have been found sadly lacking in cases dealing with British citizens. I can think of three in France and one each in Germany and Spain off the top of my head. Is it that we expect too much?  Do we expect all to have a force as good as ours?

  2. No they were totally unaware of how to deal with a situation like this and their incompetence was obvious from the outside,  the apartment contaminated so evidence was little or useless, time wasted when they should have been searching / putting road blocks in place, leakages galore, falsely accusing innocents, the list is pretty endless.

  3. I have said this a hundred times. The Portuguese police bungled this case from the very first day with mistake after mistake. As a direct result little Maddie is still missing. Roses ? More like  cigarette ash which they dropped on the crime scene.

  4. NObody smells of roses in this. It all stinks to high heaven! The truth will emerge one day.

  5. Absolutely not, they have emerged from the case looking incompetent, amateurish, ignorant, lazy and completely corrupt. In my opinion of course.

Anyone who thinks they have done a good job simply says that because they are so against the McCanns, deep down they know they are c**p.

  6. no, by handing over the files it will emerge how incompetent they were in not following up leads, not getting to the scene in time to get vital evidence etc. the list goes on and on.

  7. No, QUITE THE OPPOSITE. For one they did not secure the crime scene or recover all the available evidence from it, so by the time they went to examine the place again the scene was already contaminated. They have been very lax in their investigations and naming the McCanns as aguidos they then stopped searching for Madeline. Plus they never put prevention measures at the ports to stop the kidnappers from leaving the country. So they really messed up

  8. No wouldn't think so, i wish they had someone in custody!!

  9. No one has come out of this smelling like roses - none of them on any side.

  10. The McCanns smell of poo.

  11. According to their dog they came up smelling of death.

he gets a bit confused bless him x

  12. they came out smelling alright

  13. not at all... they have emerged looking uncompetent

  14. Know one has come out of this well. The only person who deserves any compassion is Madeleine herself, poor poor child

  15. I do not think that any police forces purpose would be to smell of roses when it is a missing child case they are working on.

The maccanns have poured hundreds of thousands of pounds of foolish peoples donated money to do exactly what you have stated , to come out of this smelling of roses, all i can smell is neglect and something more serious , the maccanns are guilty

  16. the McCanns would not cooperate and traces of blood etc were found, so knowing and proving are two different things

  17. I dont know i think they have done everything the wrong way but i dont know you cant really jusge the situation the parents and really parents who could actually leave their children its just strange!

  18. Well hardly, they didn't find her, and they've leaked their files!

  19. i don't think anyone can in such cases, but i do believe after reading what is coming out they were not as incompetent as the McCanns publicity machine would have us believe.

I think they were hampered severely in the investigation by those who were closest to the kid for reasons only they know :)

  20. When the child went missing Kate said something like ' they've taken her '. Who were ' they ' ? Nobody has ever persued this question.

  21. "smelling if roses"? What's that?

If you mean whether they handled the McCann case incorrectly. I can't say, neither can anybody here on Yahoo!Answers. If a person appears to have disappeared from the room he/she was supposed to be in, there is no reason to seal of that room or the building in which that room is situated. Neither in Portugal, nor in England, nor anywhere else. If there is proof that a crime has been committed yes, but that’s a completely different situation. The Portuguese were perhaps not very clever in dealing with the media. That is not incompetence that is inexperience.

A body was not found and that makes it rather difficult. The only valid suspects appeared to be the parents, if only for the fact that they were not cooperating with the Portuguese Police. A couple of years ago there was a very similar disappearance of an American girl (Ms Holloway) on Aruba. The body was never found. A suspect kept his mouth shut. The media blew it up even interviewed the suspect. Case was closed same as now in Portugal.

The only people who acted incompetently were the parents. We can say that because they spoke directly to us through the media. Somebody mentioned Poo. Yes I agree it's certainly not the smell of roses the parents left behind.

  22. I think everyone connected with this shameful event comes out of it smelling of something
