I caught a missed slashing on the third goal, a missed interference on the first (the wings first goal was stripped for interference but the stars did the same thing and got to keep their point) the Wings scored one when the a player fell into the goal because the puck passed the line

  1. Not likely. Remeber that Detroit is one of the NHL larger hockey markets, if anything, the league would be trying to set. It up in their favor. Though I agree that the officiating has been questionable this playoff year, think about how many people would be involved in such a setup. People do not keep secrets very well, and this is a secret that would make top news and they would be paid a lot for their story giving them even more reason to come forward, yet no one has.

  2. It's a valid discussion. I'm not going to say for sure it was fixed, but with Gary Bettman as commissioner I do have suspicions. You're totally right on all your points. Our first goal was a goal (1-0 Wings), their first goal WASN'T a goal (still 1-0 Wings), there was nothing wrong with our second goal (2-0 Wings), then they scored two legitimate goals (Tied 2-2), then the ref "intended to blow the whistle" on another of our goals which I thought was review-able, and should also have been a goal (3-2 Wings).

We outplayed the Stars and should have won that game and completed the sweep. We'll get them at the Joe on Saturday though. And we will take the Pens in 5 in the Finals.

  3. The game was not set!!! Do the wing fans forget about the goals from Morrow during the sharks series that were disallowed, Dallas moved on,detroit needs to do the same. I do agree though that the officiating has been bad , that also includes the 4 games between the Stars and r wings!!!! A octopus was thrown on the ice at the begining of the 3rd period and that's what did the wings in. Do not desecrate the Stars home with that detroit bullshit!!!!

  4. I don't think it was set.  It just had very bad interpretations of current rules (who calls back a goal when someone's butt is in the crease?).

  5. all i say is **** THE REFS

  6. I highly doubt that it was set. The Stars, to put it simply, just wanted it more. They outplayed the Wings almost the entire game, except for a few shifts here and there. Besides, if you look at the replays of the striped goal in the first period, he WAS clearly in the crease. And the goal when they crashed the net, the puck never completely crossed the line, which by definition(the entire puck must completely be over the goal line) that is not a goal. I also don't think the game was set because, as stated before, if something like that got out, it would be bigger than the Mitchell Report and Spygate combined. It happens alot though, if you think about it. The game 4's when a team is down 3-0 most of the time does go to the team that is down because they are fighting elimination, and when a team is backed into a corner with nothing to lose, they will be more aggressive and come out stronger, while for the team that's up, it's just another game in the series

  7. I can't say I buy the NHL conspirecy theory (for Crosby) but last night was ugly

  8. There were poor calls made for and against both sides. It was simply a poorly called game. That said, nothing beats the "no goal" call in the first period. That was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. What a joke. Regardless, had the Wings buried their chances and played tighter, they still could have won that game. Better luck back at the Joe.

  9. By whom and to what purpose?

  10. It really does look that way, it was probably the worst called game I've watched in awhile. It was a terrible job by the refs, I mean I've saw games that were fixed and it wasn't that blatantly obvious as this game. However we will get them in game 5, even though it will be in Dallas again... Yay! Not!!!

  11. Well I think with Bettman in attendance and when they called off the good goal, , after calling 3 penalties in a row, there was no way the Red Wings were going to allowed to win that game, did you see OTT basically holding a Red Wing down, I didn't know the NHL was so corrupted, But I do remember the Red Wings getting away with a goal because of interference before, but they were called on a few non calls right after that so I though that was there way of making up for a bad call, That didn't happen last night,  don't they normally review the goal, why didn't they then?

JOHN: EVERY national news station said Detroit got ripped on that first goal, they all said, there was no way he was in the crease, I saw the review 10 times, how can you say he was clearly in the crease, the 2nd one could have gone both ways, I did not see on national broadcast them showing a complete angle if it went over the line, could have went either way

  12. No, it was live!

  13. No, it was not consciously set.  I don't believe that refs have it in for one team or another, or that they want one team to win more than another.

THAT BEING SAID, it's not unusual for a team that is facing elimination to get the better calls - simply because subconsciously the refs are trying to make sure they don't cost that team their season.  It's not conscious, it's just human.

While it was, unquestionably, a poorly called game in many respects, it simply goes back to what I said a couple weeks ago ---- sometimes you get the calls and sometimes you don't, and you have to put yourself in a position where those calls cannot cost you a game or a series.  The Wings were in a position where a few bad calls couldn't cost them the series, but they did allow it to cost them the game by not taking care of business when they should have -- power plays where open nets are missed, turnovers in the zone, etc.

The second goal, where the puck slid in with the goalie, I'm not as upset about.  I wish the refs would make sure the puck is covered before they blow the whistle, not immedately reach for it when they cannot see the puck - after all, there are two refs and maybe the other say it fine, but at least that one is called consistently.  The Holmstrom call was a reputation call, and that's a shame -- but like Babcock said, it happens, and you have to move on.  The Wings have had their share of lucky calls too ----

I would like to see the refs more consistent on the interference (which should only apply in the crease), or make it a reveiwable play.

But the Wings should have overcome it, they didn't, and we have a game 5.  Playoffs, gotta love it, right?

  14. Maybe

  15. the refs made 3 really sh1ty calls.

the first one was the goal that the wings should've had but was called for interference

the second one was the stars' goal which should not have counted because the guy had both feet in the blue

the third was the play that didn't even go under review when the puck was in front of turko, he didn't have posession, and was past the blue line before the whistle

  16. I don't think the games are fixed but I do agree the officiating sucks and is sometimes biased.  The question is, is it biased at the direction of the NHL or is there some other influence, or do the refs act on their own?  Certain teams ALWAYS get favorable officiating.  I am surprised neither of these semi-finals series have been closer, fixed or otherwise.

  17. Are you talking about Game 1 or game 4?

I recall quite a few calls and non-calls that went the Wings way in game 1...heck in games 2 and 3 as well.

Overall the officiating this year has been horrible...the Stars have been fighting an uphill battle in Rounds 1, 2 and now the WCF's.

However the Wings are a much better team and actually are the Leagues Teachers Pet, getting the Bias of officials...

Again Wings are a great team and take advantage of what they are given...but please don't go crying when calls go against the wings.  One game does NOT balance out the bias.

In the end, the Stars simply out-played the Wings for 1 game, 1 win that's it...Now the Stars have to continue the mindset, working this out one shift, one period, one game at a time!!!

  18. As a neutral party to this question I can answer honestly.  The Red Wings should have two goals however the ref incorrectly ruled it a no goal.  Secondly I think Osgood was not as good as he normally is.  Third, Dallas finally played with some enthusiasm which was lacking in the first two games.  Now do I believe dallas will win the series, no but I had a feeling they would extend by at least one game.  Detroit will probably win game 5 but you got to give Dallas credit for making Detroit have to play a 5th game.  Turco played real well stopping 33 of 34.  Granted I know it should be 32 out 34 but still that is impressive and Dallas as a whole played their best game yesterday.

Ok Detroits I admit there were two bad goals that went against you but I would not say the wings will beat the pens in five either.  Since you believe that when you are wrong hopefully you will eat your humble pie.

  19. There were definitely some bad calls and that disallowed goal was horrible.

  20. First off, I am a HUGE Wings fan.  So, that being said, while the refs helped make sure that Dallas won, that is not the reason Detriot lost.  They lost because they were out worked, out played, and Turco had probably his best game EVER against the Wings.  Yea, the Wings got hosed hard by the refs, but, bad calls are part of the game, and the Wings are going to have to overcome this the rest of the way.

  21. WINGS got RIPPED!!!!!

But they will make up for it at the Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. I am in no way suprised the Stars managed to win a game in the series.  I am very suprised at how poorly officiated last nights game was though. Waving off the first goal was absolutely absurd.  Of all the goals Holmstrom is actually interfering with the goalie that get through they wave one off where he is a foot outside the crease.  Dallas got away with an absurd amount of penalties in the 2nd and 3rd period.  It even got to the point where the talking heads on VS were noticing and making comments.

Either way, Dallas isn't going to win 4 straight games to win the series.  The Wings will close it out tommorrow at home.  Turco simply can not win in Detroit so I would be absolutely shocked if the Stars win game 5.  For the first time in the series, Detroit did not come out with that killer attitude and they lost similar to theeir two losses against the Preds.  They will not make that same mistake in game 5.

  23. I'm not sure if it was set, but from the side of the Wings, it sure seemed like it!

The dis-allowed goal was one of the worst calls in Hockey history.

I sure hope they do a better job next game.

  24. I told my wife it was going to happen, but I didn't think they would make it so obviouis.  When I started to get pissed her responce was "why are you getting so angry when you knew this was going to happen?".

Then they tried to make up for it with less than a minute to go and down by two goals.....come on!
