  1. I would prefer to have a non-elected "Head of State" than an elected Prime Minister & an elected President.

I am 60 and have lived through several general elections. Whoever you vote for, they will not fulfill their pre-election promises. They will, instead, vote themselves the most amazing expenses, benefits, pensions etc.

Why would you want two sets of "snouts in the trough"? Isn't one set of greedy pigs enough?

  2. So you'rd really want Gordon Brown to be presisdent of England?

  3. are you for real,if cromwell and his cronies continued and todays poloticians were of the same ilk then things like music, theatre, pubs, clubs, anything that make the public happy would not exist, they were an totalitarian government,no such thing as democracy for them, think first before making childish statement .

  4. I can see the point of the Royal Family.  They're good PR for the country and stop us having a politician as the head of state.  I really can't see why they should be your main enemy.  As far as I know, it wasn't the Royal Family who put my gas bills up or fiddled the housing market so badly that I will never own a house in my life.  That was someone else with a fat, freeloading @rse and they don't appear on the stamps.

  5. Now the RUSSIANS.  They KNEW how to treat Royalty.

  6. You need to get a few objective history books, and give them a good read. People like you need to know why we have a Royal Family, how they came about, and what they represent. OK, so the present royal family doesnt exactly mean the same as what it did centuries ago, but these are the people, who gave their lives to our country, and made it one of the best in the world. Yes, even now, it is still one of the best in the world.

  7. The British Royalty brings in so much tourism money into this country, what would we gain in getting rid of them.  People who say such things are normally uneducated in the area of British History and if they took the time and effort to read a book if they possibly can read then they would see the monarchy have been only an asset to our nation and making it successful, especially due to our size compared with the other great countries such as America who derived from us anyway.  In other words no!

  8. I am not in favor of killing anybody.  Some European nations have done quite well after they abolished monarchies.

To all of you people who think the Royal Family bring in a lot of foreign tourists --   I am still looking for a tour company that will actually guarantee me a face-to-face meeting with the Queen or a member of the royal family.  My travel agent thinks it is not possible.  Apparently you know something about arranging tours that neither I nor my travel agent are aware of.

As far as touring Great Britain is concerned, the fact that you have a royal family has no bearing on my visiting the Scottish highlands, visiting Oxford, seeing friends in Kent and East Anglia.  If the monarchy were to be abolished, all foreigners would continue to come to Great Britain.  After all, they continue to go to Germany and France, and neither of those countries has a royal family.

  9. Do you honestly think if the royal family was scapped tomorrow, that the government would give you more money, reduce taxes, or invest the money in something useful?

I don't like the hangers on either, but we wouldn't gain a thing by getting rid of them.

  10. So we'd be dealing with the fat, freeloading Round-heads!
