Appeared more as in had a common face in British life - not like seeing them in Asda, but just taking more of an active role?

  1. no

  2. no - whatever they do someone will find fault - i think they should carry on as they are - with lots of walkabouts and openings etc and the occasional fly on the wall documentary.

  3. A more active role like beheading people and declaring more wars?

  4. The Queen would gain more respect if she listened more to her people, and acted more on our behalf. The queen should take advice from her people not just minsters. As to the rest of the royals we don't really need them as it is only the queen that counts as she is head of state.

  5. kings & queens suported by the people but not for the people

  6. Err it's because of how open they are that they are thought of so low by various citizens. Look at the kind of rude things people have said about them in the answers given... they just simply have lost there value...

  7. No, it would give people and the press more ammunition to talk bad about them.

  8. I'd have more respect for them if they gave up this stupid charade that's been going on a hundred years too long and actually did an honest days work for a change. Vive la Republique!

  9. no, it was just a funny story

  10. It would have two sides. They would be more respected by the people, because they would notice royals are normal people. But the press would be way to over them. And royalty is taught and meant to be polite and go with the protocol.

  11. If you look at the other Royal Families around the world, they have gained a lot of respect and admiration from their county men.

I think you need to keep an air of mystery, and not launder your dirty linen in the press - you loose all dignity and respect(this is what has happened to the British Royals)

It also seems that in order to have a successful Royal Family, you need to choose one figure head who, in the limelight will be glamorous, dignified, sincere and elegant, representative of a society to be proud of.

Take Princess Diana for instance - she made people proud to say they were British, to belong to the country that she represented. Grace Kelly became that to Monaco and it looks like France is trying that angle with the new wife of the current president.

  12. will always despise the maggots! get shot as soon as pos!

  13. Being too open is not a good idea;there is nothing wrong with acting in a respectable manner, with personal dignity. It would be a good idea to see their committee work, charitable work, their organizational works publicized more, but it seems that the media doesn't care about anything unless is salacious, personal, undignified.

It's very sad that so many people are not aware of a life where people DID NOT air their dirty laundry in public!Maury,Oprah,Jerry Springer and the like...there is something to be said about living a life of dignity where a person doesn't air personal dramas for all the world to hear. There is an old adage: "Familiarity breeds contempt."

  14. I think they have no relevance now in modern life. They are part of the history, but they have no meaningful job or status in today's world.

For instance look at Harry, he trained for the Army and then there was all the ballyhoo about him actually being sent to the field of operation. The same will happen with William. How can they ever gain respect. (I dont blame them personally, but their hands are tied with their position in life and all the flunkeys surrounding them).

  15. Not really cos at the end of the day everyone is entitled some sort of privacy!!!!!!!

  16. No more respect than the Americans give our current President and past Presidents.

  17. I used to live in Norway and the royal family there were more low key,  you could meet the King out cross country skiing or the Crown Princess shopping. I thought that was pretty cool actually that they were less remote but still could have the glamour at state occasions.  This was years ago, and I have not been there recently so i don't know what it is like now.

But I think with the way the press & papparazzi have been in Britain,  it would be very difficult for the British royal family to try to have a more open life.  I don't think it would get them more respect just more intrusion.

Still, they actually do a LOT of appearances and appointments. The Queen really does a wonderful lot of work for her age. There is a guy that keeps track of all their appearances, he was in that television programme the Monarchy, and the top royals each do like 100s of appointments in a year. Princess Anne does an enormous amount of appearances.   it was interesting to see what all they do, I think they probably work more than a lot of people think.

  18. You would be surprised just how many appointments that the Queen has in a single year. It runs into hundreds. She has little private life  and not many of us would enjoy doing all she does. Lets give her some credit instead of the negative remarks like " I hate her"

  19. who cares.........

  20. hate them all

  21. The Royal Family appear every day doing stuff country and world wide!

Search the Royal Family's web site.

  22. I don't think that's anyone's business; they not a circus attraction, they're the country's representation; they show themselves to those who need to see them; not the like of you.

I don;t now what everyone's problem with the royals is; it;s not like they choose to do what they do, they're born into it.  And they have so little actual power I'm not sure how any one could build a dislike toward them.  The self appointed government's the problem, not the royalty.

  23. They are no beter than the rest of us i have no time for them.See too muh of them as it is.They sow no respect to each other why should they deserve you,rs.

  24. Maybe, but  I'm not sure.

In the old days it was acceptable to be private, but now everything is in the media, so its a very hard question to answer. but all i can say, they're like celebrities, everyone knows them, so please, leave them alone. theres been enough death in the royal family, that the press has been atributed (not nesicarily truthly) to.

  25. Short term, yes, but I don't think long term.  They'd lose their glamor if we heard about the Queen wearing Depends or Charles taking Viagra.
