€160 to pay for channels that show adverts.

Where I live (Inishowen) is just over the border in the Republic. I can get UTV from the North, which pays for itself with adverts, and the BBC, which is paid for in NI and Britain by licence fees but doesn't have adverts.

  1. That is exactly how I feel about it too. If RTE is showing adverts, it ought to be able to fund itself through them, as all other private stations do.

The frightful amount that they pay to their dreadful presenters (Pat Kenny) etc might explain why they need a little more help, but maybe they should reconsider those salaries instead of leaching it out of the Irish people.

  2. Yes, especially when you consider that 95% of Irish-made tv is unwatchable cr*p. Fair City, Celebrity Jigs n Reels, You're a Star...need I go on?
