Do you think the UFC needs to add a few new rules?

For example in Pride you were able to kick an opponent on the ground and in the UFC you can not. Do you think that the rules should change? Any other ideas?

  1. No dude if you fall down your body goes into panic mode usually, so if the opponent were to kick you while you were down the fight could end alot quicker. and in ufc they want the fight to be close. Ground and pound is different seeing as both fighters are on the ground, and its the best of the 2 that comes out as the victor.

  2. Slightly wrong here...

You can kick a downed opponent in the UFC too... just not in the head.

Let's look at the real differences in rules from UFC and Pride..

    1. Pride allowed stomps and soccer kicks (to the head of a downed opponent. UFC allows kicks and knees to downed opponents anywere beside the head.

This is a safety measure that state athletic commissioners rule on, this rule is chosen for a reason, as the stomping and soccer kicking were one of the major things seemed wrong/blood sportish in the UFC.

    2. Pride did not allow elbows. UFC does.

Pride's purpose for no elbows were to have less stoppages via cut. However, I will take getting cut, versus severe concussion that can sideline me for months, not to mention the fact it is a brain trauma (much more likely with a soccer kick or stomp), whereas a cut will allow me to keep training.

    3. Yellow card rule... the best d**n rule about Pride period. I wish they would implement this rule in the US... if a fighter is stalling, being inactive, non combative, he gets a yellow card. Gets 10% of his purse docked...

    4. Head spikes during slams... Pride allowed them, UFC did not. Again, brain injury problem, this allows your fighters to actually make a living fighting for a long time, and not have to retire with pugilistica dementia due to repeated brain trauma, or end up paralyzed.

    5. Drug testing: UFC tests for drugs/roids... Pride did not.

Well I could keep going... but I am pretty happy with UFC's rules, aside from not having a yellow card rule, or point deduction for non combatative behavior or stalling... i.e. resting in someone's guard, throwing a few shots here and there, not attempting to improve position.

Other than that, I like the U.S. rules..

  3. The ufc has no say so in this, that is all up to the state laws and what not, but i would like to see knee's to a downed opponent legal, there is more strategy and skill involved in knee's than soccer kicks.

  4. I think that kicks and knees to the head of a downed opponent would even the playing field for strikers. It would give them more of a chance to capitalize on stuffed takedown (shot) attempts.

  5. I agree with both things Anthony said. Way too many times have I sat there, wanting a fighter to just knee his opponent in the head and finish it.

  6. I think the UFC rules are fine and agree with the no head kicks on a down opponent.  I would much rather watch my favourite fighters for many years than have people retiring forever due to serious injury.

  7. US rules are fine as they are. I'm pretty sure you can knee a grounded opponent on the sides. Plus it's pretty easy to break a leg or injure someone with a knee from a standing to a dropping position.

  8. Honestly, UFC's become tamed. I don't think the rules should be changed at all, h**l there should be no rules period.
