  1. Yes on tuesdays and thursdays so I don't have to go to work...

  2. I think that this would be far more effective in other countries with no emissions laws to start with . The US has some of the strictest laws on emissions already (our vehicle output less than any other country). Most people say we have a higher volume but local ecosystems take care of most of that (all plant life consumes CO2 to live and converts it to O2) smaller cities and towns would see no change. Only are large cities would see a very small difference (based on very few people to actually not driving).

Countries like China would see a huge change locally and globally. They have shown this in the past by reducing traffic in Beijing. You will see an example during the Olympics this year too. China has no emission laws like we do, so small things like not driving for a day make a big difference because their vehicles output more CO2, and they are a bigger country (China has over 100 cities with more than one million people living in them.. that is actually city limits not metro areas) (the US has less than 10 cities with populations over 1 million).

  3. I would definitely vote for that one!!!

    That's a good idea!!

I bet that would make a world of difference. One day a week.Billions of vehicles would be shut down. That would be like turning on an air purifier for the whole world! Not to mention...think of the money the US would save in oil.Kudos to you! More people should walk anyways!!!

  4. ciao io mi chiamo luca ciao

  5. it could work on a one day of the week, rotating scheduele, but people would just find ways around it.

  6. I agree with the first guy.  One day once in a while isn't going to help much and is going to be more inconvenient than it's worth.  Instead, raising the gasoline tax and using the money for sidewalks and crosswalks (especially traffic signals!) would be a lot more effective.

  7. That would be awful. I love driving my hummer.

  8. That would seem like it would be very tough to enforce.  You would need to include a whole bunch of exceptions for emergency, health care workers etc..

I think an equally drastic but more achievable policy would be to increase the gas tax making gas even more expensive than it already is thus making driving more prohibitive.   However, not many politicians would ever dare of proposing it since it would surely anger a lot of people.

  9. You know what - that is a fantastic idea and any person who claims to be observant of a Sabbath or honors a day each week to praise what they consider to be "God" should seriously consider doing this.

And not only that - take it further.  No electronics.  No purchasing.

Think of it!  Dedicating one day each week to not only worship, but also to removing the distractions and temptations that take us further from this wonderful natural world that has been given to us.

It's inconvenient to get up early and drive to church but a lot of people do it.

On a smaller scale I think it would be a great idea for some cities to institue "no driving" zones particularly in downtown areas like some European cities are already doing- and provide ample means for folks to get around car free.

  10. Simply put, yes.  But to further reduce carbon emissions into the environment, they should also institute no breathing days.

  11. In theory, it would be a good idea, if only to reduce gasoline consumption.  Still, it doesn't seem like it would work out, since it would inconvenience too many people, and the politician who decided to do it wouldn't ever get reelected.

  12. No, the government should butt out of our lives and let us make the decisions that are best for us.  Governement interference always creates more problems than it solves.  Witness the current renewable fuels mandate SNAFU.  Net result - more expensive fuel that gives lower mpg AND more expensive food.

  13. Yes, I think it would be a great idea to reduce fuel emissions and consumption of gas. And, stop making those huge gas guzzlers like "Hummers" what a waste of natural energy those things are. Take the bus once in a while people. Go for a walk. Its time we stopped being so selfish and lazy.
