Question:

Do you think the West Coast Eagles are tanking?

There is an article in today's paper reporting that some interstate critics have already started claiming that the WCE are tanking.

The two top drafts for next year will most likely be Daniel Rich of Subiaco & Nicholas Naitanui of Swan Districts. If we stay where we are on the ladder then we will certainly get one of the two - but if we drop behind Melbourne we will have the first choice.

Carlton did it last year & look how they benefitted!!

  1. I don't think Carlton tanked last year and I don't think West Coast are doing it this year either. It would just ruin the spirit of the game. I think the Eagles are just in a form slump at the moment.

If it was any other team in their position then people would be saying they were tanking.

  2. honestly, i dont believe eagles are tanking, yeah they are doing not as well this year and previous years, and lets face it were not going to make the finals.. but how is it tanking when Woosha plays younger players to get games under there belts to benifit them for the future! one year not in the finals may do us good and seeing as Braun and Fletcher will both retiar or be dropped soon, so learning to play without them is a must.. aslo maybe kerrs injury was just bad luck!!

  3. the official line from West coast will be NO WAY NO CHANCE same as Carlton last year, and i suppose playing younger kids and resting the older hands is technically not tanking but the football world knows different and while these rules continue to be in place WHO COULD BLAME SIDES FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE ESPECIALLY WHEN IN 2 YEARS THE DRAFT WILL BE A LOCKOUT TO EXISTING TEAMS WITH THE GOLD COAST TEAM HAVING IT ALL TO THEM SELVES.

  4. All i say is ask yourself "Are West Coast playing to their full capacity"?

As Cossy said if you are a member, you know your team and you know their capacity to play.

I dont think W/Coast are playing to their full this year.I am not saying they are tanking i am saying they look 'flat' this year..

I am not a member so i can not judge them.

  5. Anybody who thinks they are tanking are seriously on the choongs!!!! Yaul need ya head checked out!! Tanking does not exist... Only retarded people like pies supporters!!!!!!!

  6. Maybe they rested Fletcher, Braun, Kerr so that they can have a serious crack at Geelong this weekend? The disappointing part about this is that the Eagles are clearly slipping back into that routine from 4 or 5 years ago where they were more confident about winning at home, than on the road.

  7. woosha has denied the tanking as one would expect him too

i have no opinion on it if they are then good on them i suppose at least that means my tigers will win at least one more game this year

ask yourself this as a supporter and may be a member would you prefer to see effort or are you content to go to the footy to knowing that your team is going to loose

  8. I've said it before & I'll say it again -ANYONE who knows anything at all about the character of John Worsfold would know that this would not be a part of his agenda EVER. Draft picks or not.

726pm: Daniel is injured. AND having him there hasn't helped them win too many other hames?? He is just Daniel Kerr, not a miracle worker....

1:41pm: No I am not married to Woosha. Have just seen him play/coach football for years and anyone could tell that giving up (ie tanking) is not part of his make up. Maybe for a team like Carlton it happened as they had been previously penalised by the AFL for salary cap breaches so they had to do something to get some draft picks to rebuild their team.

  9. No because even though he is a man of many firsts in AFL Woosha  doesn't want to be the first Eagles coach to win the wooden spoon even if he got the first ten picks.

  10. Theres a difference between tanking and just plain sucking......... which The Eagles seem to be doing after the loss of two of there greatest ever players.

  11. If west coast is not tanking, why didn't Daniel Kerr play on friday? He could've been the difference between a win and a loss

  12. Yeah. I reckon they are.

They "rested" Braun, Fletcher & Kerr last week against the Bombers. That was a winnable game for the Eagles & by putting the team on the ground that they did they made sure they'd lose. The teenagers they played in their place tried hard but just didn't have the experience.

  13. Yep Tanking for sure, they suck and will for many years to come. Is Sue married to Worsfold, lol.

  14. isn't  it possible that Essendon played really well and the eagles simply lost fair and square?

  15. i dont think West coast are tanking. they are just having a bad year

  16. I hope they are not.... talk about a kick in the guts to the Bombers and their supporters who were stoked with the win!

  17. If West Coast do tank like the Blues did, it will put a dampener on our sport. Where is the spirit of the game? The AFL will definitely change the priority pick system once another team tanks, and it will serve everyone right. No team should try to lose for draft picks, they should try to keep the club's pride in tact.

  18. It sure looks that way.

  19. so are you claiming, that for the next 12 or so rounds of the season, the eagles are gonna try and lose? i think it's a load of c**p. and if the allegations are true, then they must be high on drugs or something because it is so stupid

  20. Im about 50/50 on this one imawunda

The weagles have lost their two best ever players in Juddy and Cousins.- I have allways said that their midfield was their strength, and take that away and they would be ordinary. Like they are this year

    On the other hand

The rewards for finishing last are to good to ignore.

Higher Draft picks, Piority picks.. etc etc

look at Carlton ( not saying they tank at all ) they have rebuilt their team around Judd, and have had several top picks in the past few years, who are now their best players.

This is an issue that the AFL *MUST*  fix

    EDIT

On playing younger players to "rest" the seniors and give the young blood some experience

Surely if your going to blood the young ones, you *would* do it in a "winnable" game, (like against the Bombers) hoping the mix of youth and enthuisam wil carry you over the line.

Who the h**l would want to put the young guys in against a team like say, Gelong or the Hawks, who would kill your BEST side?

The people saying that because they are not feilding their senior side they must be tanking, should pull their heads in.

  21. YES, WEST COAST ARE GOING TO BEAT EVERY TEAM FROM NOW ON!

  22. They are not tanking... and I don't know if West Coast will have first draft pick anyway as it is based on the last 2 years

  23. OK.. Imagine yr at a party, yr mate you came there with took off with the only good looking chick that was there, you know nobody else, but theres plenty of free p**s and food...

    Wat do you do?

    a) you leave and go home friendless, hungry and sober

    OR

    b) take advantage of a bad situation and eat merrily, have a few drinks and lighten up n meet a few new friends?

I believe the Eagles have chosen option b) and are taking advantage of a bad situation and finding the positives out of the seasons and being the AFL have set up the draft in this fashion one of those positives may b a number one draft pick!

Good on them for using all the resources available to them for their club and supporters future benefits!

We all know our own team would be quietly "not doing it" if they were in the same situation..

It's the 'smarter' option if you dont count that little word pride..
