Do you think the White Sox should bench Konerko?

Question

I like Paul Konerko, but he's been struggling most of the season. Other than his recent 4-4 game against the Rangers, he's been pretty dismal at the plate. He is just not getting the job done.

Unlike Thome, who has started to come around of late, it doesn't look like Konerko is going to break out of his slump any time soon. And, lately he's been breaking down in the field as well.

When Konerko was on the DL, the Sox had Swisher at first and platooned Wise and Anderson in center field. That seemed to work really well and Swisher seems to be a better first baseman than center fielder.

I know it's hard to break out of a slump when you don't get any at bats, but maybe Konerko should be sent down to AAA for some more rehab.

Do you think that Ozzie should stick with Konerko? What about a Thome/Konerko platoon at DH?

They won't bench him for these reasons:

1. He's one of only three captains in all of baseball.

2. They are paying him a lot.

I would say let Konerko platoon with Thome  and start Swisher at first.

He seems like he's having a Richie Sexson kind of year.

Swisher did an awesome job when Paulie was on the DL. With Anderson and Wise platooning in center, they did a good job.

Paulie has been hurt for most of the year. He had a thumb problem and couldn't generate any power for the first two months. Then the oblique strain happened.

You can't give up on him yet. When he's healthy he will deliver.

We are still in first. With a healthy Konerko, things will only get better.

Not yet. I say give him some more time. The team is still winning with him. He is notorious for having one bad half and one good half. Hopefully that trend holds true.
