I think it was buster onley that said that samardzija is this years joba chamberlain and other great setup men-to-be-closers. As a cubs fan, i want jeff to perform great and i think he can handle expectations since he played football at a college that always has high expecations, but its a little unfair to compare him to already proven big league pitchers. Plus i want to see him tried as a starter (and i think they will next season) before the cubs commit him to being a relief pitcher his whole career.

  1. I dont think they are "over hyping" him...He is a good pitcher and they are just excited to see another rookie big leaguer who has potential to be a great big leaguer...and I dont think they are sayying he will be a reliever for his whole life, i think they were referencing him as being a big arm in the bullpen for the Race for October this year.

    I think that he has a good chance at being our "Joba Chamberlain" for this year...I am not deeming him it yet... but if he keeps up what hes doing and keeps that ERA around 2 then he will be great for us in September and hopefully October.

  2. Personally, I was kinda upset when he chose the MLB. I wanted to see him do good in the NFL at wide receiver.

  3. well over-excited i think is a better word..

    it seems like its their job to do that to the extreme -___-;

    it is an interesting story however :)

  4. He is a cub pitcher so of course they are going to over hype him. See Wood, Prior.

  5. YEP!!!
