  1. Can you lift 60 pounds over your head for 8 hours a day?  If you can do that, I'm sure they'd find a place for you.

  2. I'll get you a leafblower if you promise to get feminists off the streets... I want to leave in a trash-free city!

  3. Sure, why not?  We have female sanitation workers in Canada.

Mind you, don't you want to aim a tad higher?  The work conditions are dirty, smelly and goodness knows what you might find in those trash cans.  And on a hot day it is awful.  Cold days aren't much better.

How about going back to school and doing a trade?  Like electrician, plumber etc.?  The pay is good too.

I would probably say the same thing if you were a guy, but because you are a woman I do, I admit, care more, because I am a woman too and can relate more.

  4. I don't see why not. They pretty much have to, or its descrimination. You just have to be able to meet the physical requirements. I'm sure more men apply than women, plus, few of the women who DO apply would be able to meet the physical requirements. As I'm sure you've thought about it and are OK with the smell and general disgusting-ness of week old garbage, would you be able to do a task like throwing an armchair or old appliance into the back of the truck? It's usually just one person doing the actual garbage picking-up.

If you haven't already applied, you should be able to get a list of the physical requirements, which you can then read over.

Another similar job to do with the same type of work though a little less demanding and gross is working for your city and town. They usually do things such as empty garbages on main roads, clean the bus shelters, clean public washrooms, water flowers and trees, set up for events like fireworks or parades, mow the lawns and boulevards, plant the gardens, things like that around the city on public property. It sounds like what you are looking for, but with a little more variety. Plus you get to drive a tractor! (Just a suggestion!)

  5. Your correct that you see less women in the garbage collecting workplace, but perhaps try working at a plant nursery. It's outdoors all day long and its very physical, same as sanitation, although I would think smells a lot better.

  6. I don't see why not.  I am sure you will have to be able to meet the job requirments as men do though.  One of the sanitation workers near the school I work at is a woman.  She does a great job as far as I know.  She showed the kids a new trash truck when we did a "Big Wheels" day (big trucks came to the school) and was very friendly.

  7. Its a physical, dangerous job. You will be out in all kinds of weather, doing a tremendous amount of walking and heavy lifting. Is that something you really want to do?

  8. Of course they would.  I have seen a few women loading or driving the garbage trucks.

If you can lift the stuff then you should get the job right?

    Cheers

  9. Yeah, they probably would. We still have many gender issues even in this country to solve, but people are not so nearly stereotypical anymore as they used to be. Ä°n fact, most here probably would not even think about it. Ä° am almost 100% sure they would hire you now a days

  10. Nope. you need to be able to do some heavier lifting yet you confess you never exercise so you'll be all petered out miss & never pass the physical requirements.
