Question:

Do you think the congressional Democrat 'all of the above' energy strategy will work?

Democrats plan to return to Washington and the campaign trail next week with a message on offshore drilling that they say will put Republicans on the defensive….

On Capitol Hill, congressional Democrats say they will try to corner the Republicans by offering them votes on their own agenda with Democratic priorities mixed in.”We’re about to do a political reverse takedown on the Republicans,” said Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.).

Top House Democrats say that shortly after Congress reconvenes, they will put on the floor a piece of legislation that will include an expansion of offshore drilling but also a renewable electricity mandate, energy-efficiency standards for buildings and oil industry tax provisions.

Some Democrats have started to describe the legislation and the broader message on energy as “all of the above” — a term first coined by House Republicans to describe their own legislation.

What do you think the result of this strategy will be? Will congressional Republicans agree to the compromise? Or if they reject it, what kind of ramifications do you think that will have on the November elections?

  1. I suppose you believe--  that if

"we(Democrats) will ALLOW SOME offshore drilling"

    IF

"you(Republicans) let us TAX the oil companies",  is a viable solution to our energy crisis.

Is that correct? Is that what you really think we should do?

  2. Honestly , they are politicians and being so they understand that the majority of the public want offshore drilling . I think it's a political move that allows them to take credit for it If it goes well or blame the Republicans if it doesn't . Politics as usual , the Republicans would probably do the same thing if they were in power .

  3. You really believe that the answer lies within a political party?  For someone who claims to be intelligent its amazing how you look to politicians to solve problems.  They can't solve anything they are there to collect money and feel important, some may care about the people but most don't.  Most bills are political ploys, you need to grow up and realize that those in Washington D.C. could care less about the average american.

  4. I think it will work because it will either force the Republicans to compromise or to reveal that they have no intention in supporting any energy solutions except increased drilling, which isn't even a solution.  This is a smart strategy by the Dems because it's a win-win.  Either they get renewable energy funding or the Republicans reveal their true stripes.  And those stripes are painted with oil.

  5. Electricity and oil are two completely different questions.

Why do so few people fail to grasp that.   We do not generate a material amount of our electricity with oil, and batteries are DC not AC - even considering "electric cars" in the equation, electricity and transportation really aren't related.
