  1. yes. I just paid $125 (american $) to have 1 tooth pulled which would normally have taken 10 minutes. and my dentist had 15 years experience and he screwed up and pulled the wrong tooth and cause nerve damage which can't be repaired and at 37 years old, I can't even soup without a "bib". I know it cost a lot for equipment and stuff but it's ridiculous. They charged me $100 for a 10 sec. x ray..

  2. Yes I agree, going to the dentist is a very expensive activity.  You have to be bog poor to get any kind of NHS dentistry these days.

At age 67 I've still got all but two of my teeth - not too bad.  I have managed so far by only two visits to the dentist.  The first at age 16 to have an extraction - one tooth out and the second visit last year to have a second tooth out.

Swill your mouth with beer before going to bed.  It does d**n all for the breath, but you feel better after the swallow.

  3. £20 for a check up,,?

    pull the other one.

  4. £20 is a lot less than a consultation with a laywer and probably a lot more use too.

  5. every 2 years they say you need an x ray , they charge you like 1.25 for one side then more expensive for the other side , for something you proberly dont need because if the denist was good annoth they would know if anything was wrong

  6. No i don't you pay for what you get and they are professional  people

  7. Do you want someone to look at your teeth and let you know everything is either ok or not ok if they were not qualified to do so? That is what you are paying for.

  8. they make sure everythings going right. of course its worth it

  9. A checkup is £16.20 to be exact. I'm an extremely useless dental receptionist but I know that much. It's worth coming though because the dentist doesn't just check your teeth . They inspect your gums and the whole area of the mouth for signs of any changes or disease including the signs of cancer.

Another thing, if you register with a dentist in the UK you have signed a contract to book an appointment and pay the £16.20 every time you get a reminder letter in the post . If you are deemed to have poor oral hygiene this could be as often as every 12 weeks. If you don't book an appointment you risk losing the dentist , even if you have a full mouth of dentures .

NHS fillings are £44.60 regardless of whether you have one or twenty and dentures are always £128. This is because the dentist is paid according to how many units of dental activity they carry out and one person having one type of treatment eg an extraction or a filling counts as 1 unit . They can't pull them all out and charge you double the amount.

You're only entitled to treatment free of charge if you're on income support , the highest rate of working tax credits or pension credits , are pregnant , have a child under the age of 12 months or are a serving prisoner.

    So there .

  10. You are paying for the dentist's skill, knowledge and experience, not just his/her time.

I'll  check your teeth if you like, only a fiver. I'm not a dentist but that doesn't matter, does it?

  11. Rip off. I wish I could earn 6000 pounds an hour! LOL

  12. Wow thank god it's free for those in further education :D

  13. i'm still a child so i don't pay for them but yes they are i have 2 brothers so it is expensive i mean my mum could buy 10 meals 4 the price of 3 check ups, my mum and dad don't go unless absoultly nessosery because of the price!

  14. Ever wondered why they don't do dental DIY sets in B and Q?  Probably becaue not everyone has got the 5 years spare to learn how to use one properly.  Pay peanuts, get monkeys.  I wonder why folk will pay £250 to get their car serviced each year and moan about £20 for a dental exam.  If you don't like the cost don't go.  It's a free market and they're your teeth - it ain't a compulsory thing you know, plenty of people manage with no teeth at all - they just suck their food and make bad kissers!

  15. Yes dental work is expensive but the ramifications of not caring for your teeth will affect you forever. If you get regular cleanings and take care of your teeth prevention is better and less expensive than having to fix them after things have gone wrong.

See this link to what happens if you do not take care of your teeth.
