Do you think the ecomomic stimulus check will really help the economy?

Seems like there could have been better options. Since so many people are out of work, I think that money could have been better spent if it had been used to give more grants for starting small businesses. A lot of people I know are having so much trouble finding work - that's what they're trying to do (including myself)- start their own business - but having the funds to do so makes it more difficult.

It seems that one paycheck is not going to make a permanent solution. If the stimulus checks had been given along with a boost in grants for starting businesses that seems like it would have been more effective. What are your thoughts?

in a dying economy you want to make more small businesses? thousands of small businesses are going bankrupt every day...

i think you should take what the government GAVE you and do whatever you want with it, it was never intended as a permanent solution.

absolutely not. i think people need to learn to be responisble with their money and live within their means and not rely on the government to survive on. i think its bs that the gov just bailed out all these irresponsible people who bought more house than they could afford. i think we the people need to stand up and take responsibilty of our own personal budget solutions.

do i have the answers? f no, im just man trying to make the right choices for MYSELF.

and yes, that money IS going into the economy because that $600 you put towards rent is $600 extra from your next paycheck. which im sure will go towards groceries or that new pair of retro air jordans youve been eyeballing.

btw, if the economy is so f'd up how is it that each and every blockbuster movie that comes out breaks the previous' net? sounds to me like people dont know how to spend their money, so yes, maybe the stimulus checks should have gone towards educating fools about the difference between want and need.

and what about the rest of us? the ones who dont want to start a business. we just get f'd over by all your new small businesses and their rediculously uncompetetive prices?

No the only thing it will do is make Republicans look good in a bad crisis! Democrats are the ones who can fix this economy! Republicans are only good if they could keep out of foreign polices and stay away from restrictions!

EDIT: Greg's Wife needs to grow brains and stop listening to her TV soap's. Also you'll be moving on when you pay extra for gas and living. Try to learn something instead of believing everything you hear from a church who talks about politics! Separation of church and state! What would Jesus say when he sees Bush encouraging Christians in church to support killing people in the name of God!

Like most things, it was a political stunt.  The money for those checks was borrowed from China.  So yeah, it's nice to have $1200 in my pocket, but our nat'l debt is now much bigger, and that will have to be paid off someday, with interest.

It's precisely the same as if they forced each of us to take out a $1200 loan but are not allowing us to begin paying it back.

In the long run, we will be worse off for it.

Well, i think that the stimulus check was a good thing that the government did!!!! First, of all, some families are barely making it paycheck by paycheck. The stimulus might of helped out in different ways..Ex. Bills, food, new clothing, new shoes, depts, GAS, and etc... I think this really helped the people who had the stimulus check coming to them!! It was helpful in so many ways!!!!  THESE R MY THOUGHTS!!!!

I think they are effective because people will spend the money right when they get the check and the money goes right back into our economy.

The only thing that will help the economy is getting rid of the Democrats running Congress!  Gas prices have skyrocketed since Nancy and the gang took over.

As for the stimulation to start new businesses, that seems like a big gamble.  Most businesses fail.

No it hasn't really made the affect that everyone thought it would.  I think more people used the stimulus check to pay off debt (like I did).  It might have made a positive mark for discount retailers but other than that I don't think it has a great affect.  The biggest thing its doing is adding to the national deficeit
