Not all people tip and we can't expect each individual to tip them! Honestly I think the economic inflation never stop increase ever and everything is expensive while the server's salary is only $2.15-$2.50.

They rely on tips and some people do give good tips...that is very good thing; however, some people really don't tip-- oh well, can't complain much because the tips are not mandatory ...but why the restaurants/food service pay so cheap for waitress/waiter/pizza delivery guy???...somehow I do think those employers really rip off on these people's work. What do you think?

  1. Because everybody does tip.  If they don't they risk getting beat in the parking lot.  We get paid so little because we make sooooooo much with tips.  It is sometimes rediculous how much you can make serving or bartending.  Far more than the owner in the short term, but long term they far surpass us.

  2. Terri, a nurse does not make 2.50 per hour. A nurse receives benefits as well, not waiters and delivery personnel.

Anyhow, There are a lot of cost involved in running a restaurant. Work men's comp itself does swallow a lot.

However, I do believe, if a business is doing well, it is due to it's employee and a good product. And employees should be rewarded for good work, not only through tipping by costumers, but by the employer, as well.

  3. I think if you want to earn more money, you should select a job that pays more. If you aren't qualified for one, then go back to school and get yourself qualified.

Everyone knows that waitressing and pizza delivery don't pay a whole lot...that's hardly a surprise. I am sure you knew even before accepting the job. So, no one is ripping you off. You made the choice to take the job; you always could have said no.

  4. Yes, I do think they rip their help off. I make $2.83 an hour plus tips. ( I am a waitress). That is gross, before taxes, etc. My employer even deducts $.25 an hour for food. I do get a break and can pretty much have whatever I want except for steaks. So I pay $2 a day for my meal, which is usually around $6. I figured out one time that I make $1.87 an hour without tips.

But there are people that run your butt off, and then leave c**p for a tip. I left a question the other day about tipping, and most people say that they double the tax!!! What a joke. It's 6% here in PA. That is an insult. It's 15% breakfast and lunch, dinner is 20-25% of the bill. The h**l with the tax.

One thing I can say, is that we remember the "cheap" tippers. So if you go to a place, and don't tip for c**p, you won't get good service. I can waste my time on a table that I know I'm going to have a chance of getting a good tip over someone who is going to leave a standard tip.

I'm a pretty darn good waitress, and I hate when people request me to wait on them, and then they tip me the same as the crappy waitress.

    Sorry I've rambled...

AND also, I HAVE cleaned up puke because people are dirty and they won't clean up after their children. 85% of people that come with children, are slobs. They let the kids do what they want because they know they don't have to clean up after them.

  5. i don't tip as no one tips me! whens the last time you tipped a nurse? no one makes them be servers they choose to be. i have to wipe away vomit and blood to treat you. the worst that happens to the driver is some yummy sauce splashs on him!

  6. I own a restaurant and I pay my staff 50% more than the minimum wage and they keep 100% of the tips, allocated between them according to how many hours they worked.  Because our wage bill is very high we have less staff, they work harder and subsequently get tipped more because it is obvious to customers that they are earning it.  The only customers that don't understand are Americans, they cannot believe how few staff we cope with....if you pay peanuts, you can afford a lot more monkeys!
