  1. No, not really.  Oil companies do not make a high percentage of profit compared to other industries.  The reason they make so much profit is because, duh, they are a large industry.  But if other industries were as large as them those industries would actually make more profit.  The reason we have high gas prices is obvious.  We have not drilled new refineries.  When the demand goes up but the supply doesn't then you will have high costs.  We could drill alot more in the U.S. but many politicians will not let us.

  2. Of course... the gas companies are just like every other business in the world... they want to make as much money as they can...

After the gas scare right after hurricane katrina when gas prices skyrocketed and there was no real drop in the amount f gas purchased the gas companies realized they can charge whatever price they want for gas and people will pay it...

Gas prices will continue to rise until people cut back on the amount of gas they use... which yes, is hard... especially in a country with horrible public transportation and so many people driving around in gas-guzzling SUVs...  If you as an individual are concerned about the price of gas, all you can do is cut back on buying it as much as you can (perhaps buy a hybrid car, or at the very least something like a honda that gets good gas milage... motorcycles get really good gas milage as well (I have a Kawasaki Ninja 500 that gets about 55 miles per gallon if I ride it easy)

  3. Duh.. It's the man holding us down.. RISE UP against the oil companies.

  4. It's a well known fact that the price of energy is tied to everything else.  When it goes up, so does everything else.  Can't tell you what would happen if it goes down, as I've never seen that really happen.

  8. of course but we keep paying for it so they are goign to keep taking advantage the only way to stop it is if we choose one major gas company and no one buys from that station then after a while they will eventually have to lower their prices so they dont go bankrupt then once everyone begin to buy gas from them the rest of the gas companies will have to lower thier prices

  9. Yes. The gas companies profits are bigger now than ever. This is at our expense.
