Do you think the government would stoop this low?

Do you think the government would ever make it mandatory that all new cars are fitted with a chip that records all movements made in your car, how fast your going and track where your going? etc?

Would this be a good thing maybe? would it lower the amount of car thefts? Or is this just Big brother gone mad?

I am interested to know your thoughts on whether this could ever happen and if it did, would it stop you driving?

  1. First of all, YES the government will stoop that low. You will learn that the government doesn't really care about us and they're all pretty corrupt. Secondly, I think this is a bad idea. But no, it wouldn't stop me from driving. I would definitely make a stink about it though, write some letters, lol even thought it might not do any good.

  2. First off there are NO depths to which our wonderful International Socialist Welfare Police State has not, does not, or will not stoop! Putting 'chips' in cars? Thats nothing: They'll be trying to put 'chips' in PEOPLE before you know it!

  3. They already have, already stated, GPS systems. These are not just for your benefit. Then there is the tracking chip that, at the minute is voluntary, will go into all new cars to stop them being nicked. What about mobile phones? If the AA and RAC can find you out in the wilderness via your phone, who else benefits from this technology. Every move that we make now in this country is monitored no matter where we go.

  4. " a chip that records all movements made in your car, how fast your going and track where your going? "

Your GPS device is capable of doing all of this and they can provide you with detailed information of where you came from, where you went to and how long it took you to travel between each poll along the route.

Your "Chip" isn't a chip, It's a GPS device. Everyone loves their GPS but they hate the idea of being tracked, I've never been able to understand why people can't join up those two dots.

    [ Edit ]

Getting sick of providing valid answers and getting a nice big thumbs down for my efforts.   If you think a SatNav can't and wont be used to track you then you're an idiot...

By it's very nature a SatNav is a global positioning system and records details of your movements and how quick you move. I know for a fact that some SatNav/GPS systems have a feature which allows "people" to review what you've been doing and that feature will eventually become standard.

Eventually SatNav/GPS systems will be fitted as standard in every new car and you'll all still be bitching and whining about people tracking you using magical chips when there's a device staring you in the face which does exactly what you're afraid of.

Answers is populated by total f*&£ing morons, myself excluded.

  5. It wouldn't stop me doing anything, because the first thing I'd find out is how to disconnect it.

It could happen, because the same technology that drives your satnav can be adapted to track your movements. I frankly would not put anything beyond this government, to whom motorists are just a handy way to make money.

  6. Yes, our government would. Its already started with the OnStar thing. It's not something that would make me happy, but it wouldnt keep my from driving either. It'd just be another ridiculous invasion of our privacy, not something the government is opposed to.

  7. This is not really new  it is the modern method that is carrying forward

what has always been been available to the police to stop and check.

Any market trader will tell you that they have been stopped going to, or coming from a market. Where have you come from? Where are you going to? What are you carrying? And while the questions are being answered the other PC is checking over the van hoping to find fault.

What is the all up weight that you are permitted to carry?  You look a bit heavy to me will you follow me to the nearest weigh bridge? Do i have a choice? No answer. He has been on the market all day and the van is therefore half empty. It is just one big con. The trader has been up since 6am on his feet all day it is now 7pm and on his way home

tired and still has work  to do preparing for the next days market.

As the saying goes what`s New.?

  8. Q yeah, everything is to by chipped, there may even be one in your computer right now, they could be watching and listening to you in your own home, they are up to all sorts to get information, and take away your liberties.

  9. It wouldn't surprise me if the government would do something like that.  After all, this government, both Republicans and Democrats, already gave us a de facto national ID card known as the Real ID.  And a provision in the House rescue bill gave the IRS the ability to track your credit card transactions.  So, with these two provisions in place they can pretty much be able to track your movements regardless.  You might see some good things come about, however things like this will almost always lead to governmental abuse and tyranny through a police state.  The Soviet Union had a low crime rate, but their people were oppressed.  As a result of this, many innocents also died because of this oppression.  So, in a way it turns into a situation where Big Brother goes mad.  If something like this would happen, no it would not stop me from driving.  We the People have a right to travel without restriction, and the government is suppose to protect that right not take it away.  I will fight to protect and keep that right as well as many other rights I feel the government has violated.  However, with the Real ID Act in place, along with various other laws that will take too long to list, that do nothing but create a police state, I think we need to start asking ourselves is this what we want, a totalitarian government?

  10. Possibly.  Depends on the party, too.  Either one, republicans or democrats wouldn't surprise me for them to do it.  But with democrats in office, it's almost a sure thing.  The democrat mentality is that the government decide everything you do, tell you what to do and how.  Forget having a free choice of your own.

  11. Of course they would they are desparate to find a way to impose more taxes

  12. There is very little that I would put past the government. Bush wants birth control pills considered to be like abortions. He's a woman hater.

I think this is unlikely but possible. The cost may not justify the ends. I think if the cost did justify the ends, meaning that a lot of money would be saved then it would be implemented. We are a greedy nation. That's our #1 Value. It's our #1 Priority.

This would be a bad thing. It might but at what cost? I think people would become even more irresponsible.

It would probably not stop my driving. Driving is a necessity where I am. I agree with the first responder. I'm law abiding. It just annoys me to have someone watching my every move. It's an invasion of my privacy. Someone could probably really hurt someone else with some manipulation. This is a dangerous path. I would protest.

  13. I think it is so stupid. England is one of the smallest Countries in the World yet we have more cctv than any other. The goverment want to know our wereabouts all the ****** time

  14. Why would I stop driving?  I am pretty much law abiding.

  15. I'm concerned frankly... I think it infringes on your civil liberties... I personally would not like it. Imagine in a moment exceed the speed limit and be fined... try to drive under the speed limit 100% of the time; it's impossible.

Then what about the freedom of movement - I think you're seriously 'controlling' the population if you were to take these steps, regardless of the positives it may have.
