  1. Not at all. What if there was an accident? How would the emergency services get through if all the lanes were blocked with queing traffic?? And where would we go if our cars broke down??

  2. Though I've wanted to use it as a lane for a long time, I have to say that this is absurd! It is too bumpy for normal highway speeds, and there is just too much that can go wrong. I could see if it was only temporary like for construction, and at low speeds, but for everyday, I say BAD IDEA!

  3. It is a great idea, and has been very successfully trialled on the M42 around Birmingham.

There are refuges every 500m for breakdowns.

The hard shoulders are only used as running lanes when it is busy to increase capacity.

Speed limits are reduced whilst operational, which has reduced accidents.

In the event of an accident, the hard shoulder can be quickly closed again!

A brilliant idea, if you all drive properly it will save everyone time!

  4. What a fantastic idea! The idiots - what happens if you break down? You're going to end up with multiple vehicle shunts!

  5. It's hilarious, considering how much fuss the cops always make about the safety aspect of people who drive up the hard shoulder to get round traffic queues. If you ever see any of these Police Stop shows on TV, you'll know what I mean.

  6. read the highway code.  it contains all the information you need to know about active traffic management!

  7. Unless they plan on doing alot of improvements then no it is not an safe idea.
