What is your opinion, some schools are having conflicts with all of the bad sites so do you think they should ban internet from the students? I personally think that it would take away quite a lot and you would have the background or experience with computer going into college. The bad part is that your going back into time and teaching students again with the encyclopedia.

  1. This isn't an answer but C Jason, your people block the most ridiculous things. I used to go to a design school and thank god i graduated by now cause halfway through my senior year the internet blocker people blocked all the font sites so that NO ONE in my graphic design class could finish their projects the way the wanted. Nobody could print refernence pictures from the library for their paintings/drawings because the picture feature on google was blocked, so that kept ALOT of people from getting anything productive done at school. Sure you can write to them, but you have to go through months of bureaucratic garbage. Sure, block pron in schools.. but if you think censorship to this degree is going to solve any of the schools problems, then you can't be very bright.

  2. I agree with Jason.  Sites can always be banned from a network.

  3. No, I don't think they should ban it. When I was in school, the internet was just starting, but they had website blockers on it. However, I am aware now days, the kids are so tech savvy, probably more than the teachers. They just need to get better software to block sites if they are that concerned with it. I don't think they will ever fully do away with the internet in school. Probably in a few years, pen and paper will be obsolete.

  4. school filter. in our school, there is a white list which allows some websites to be viewed normally, and others, no pics, videos, or any multimedia content(only word content) and others not viewable at all. it will be frustrating for students doing research, but it is better that getting people to abuse the free internet service.

  5. I work for a school district and I am the one who decides what is banned and what isn't.  For the most part, a filter takes care of any sites we don't want anyone to go to (p**n, myspace, un-educational games, chat rooms etc).  If there is a site blocked that some one wants, then all they have to do is prove to me what educational value the site has and I will allow it.  It sounds like the schools you are talking about need to get a better filter.
