  1. How many sea lions do we need?  They are decimating the abalone populations as well.   Let's thin 'em out and give some other species a chance.  Sea lions are nothing particularly special.

  2. I lived in for Seattle for years and this issue is the proverbial double edged sword.

Trouble with sea lions: A salmon is a salmon is a salmon.  They can't tell from endangered or not.  Not something they should have to worry about anyway.

I think before we resort to killing them several steps should be taken to change their eating habits and location.  Even moving them down the coast 2,000 miles if needed.

We are the first step in protecting salmon -- sea lions shouldn't have to suffer for our conservation failures.

  3. no its not good.

  4. What is your source? Trying to read between the lines,,, it seems they are allowing 85 per year to be harvested. Is it an overpopulated area that needs the sea lion numbers to be brought down so they do not devastate the area? Not knowing your source, I can not address the specific situation you are talking about.

That being said, I would never put the life of an animal, fish, bird, or reptile over the life of a human. The sea lion population has become so large in area's that they are depleting their own food source. If people have a use for the sea lion and they are plentiful enough to be harvested, than I do not have a problem with it.

    .

I do not think (as your post suggests) they are going to pull up to a beach with machine guns blasting, murdering everything that moves. And than leaving them there to rot.

  5. that is absolute BULLCRAP

seals have been eating salmons probably even before we  humans discover fire.

we shouldn't interfere with the natural order of things. its bad enough the bloody japanese and icelanders are killing whales. now people are turning on seals. and its the bloody americans! geeze i had a lot of respect for america but now i dunno wat to think.

if they wanna make more salmons y cant they just get some and breed them in captivity lyk wat they do to the pandas and lions, etc.

  6. The Sharks and Killer Whales have presented total opposition to the whole project. Tribal Inuit Hunters have given the green-light to the hunt on the condition that they will do the harpooning and shall be allowed total control over the disposition of the bagged sea lions......mmmmm,seeeea liiiions, auuugh,[ a' Homer do-nut drool']. As for the salmon.....hmmmmm...salmon steak ,grilled over hickory with charcoal roasted mix of sugar-sweet onion, red  bell pepper and Sicilian hot green peppers ,all, witch have been marinated in x-tra virgin olive oil and garlic(roast the garlic too)....Save some o' that oil to drizzle over that crispy fired fish! Serve with a pile of oil-cured ripe olives and celery-hearts plus fresh hot giabatta and cellar-temp chianti.Ayyy,it's a red-flesh fish! Mongiade' ! We all gotta eat,Hombre. They aren't catching those fish just to dump 'em in a hole for thrills.

  7. Oh great... PETA's and the ALF are gonna have a field day with this one if it ever makes headlines.
