  2. They might be symbolic, but they are not archetypes. Archetypes are much more complex, usually referring to a character, and there are lots of qualities which an archetype included. They are very central elements of a story, and are commonly found in most stories.

  3. the kites he mentions are kites he remembers and understands and at the time and date he writes about where the ones that where probable used so whether the are archetypes or not is irrelivant

  4. I don't really think so.  I think they were simply kites typical of the place and time.
