Do you think the media has a responsibility regarding the NIU shootings to keep the name and face....?

of the shooter annonomous? I do. If we put all the focus on the victims and not the person who committed this horrendous crime it will send the message that if you commit a crime like this you will be nothing more than a nameless, faceless nobody. I think he should get no noteriaty whatsoever. What do you think?

whay are they talking about this at all. People get killed in inner cities every day.

I halfway agree with you on this.  However, we do have freedom of the press in our country and SOMEBODY will eventually print the name, photo, etc. of this horrendous person.  I don't think we want "Extra" and "Entertainment Tonight" to be the only source for news in this area, and that's what would happen if we relegated this type of coverage to those types of television programs or to The Enquirer or Star for print.

I think it is just human nature to want to know about this person who would commit such a horrific crime . And maybe a way of telling ourselves who are humanitarian that "wow I am just not like that", "I love my life and respect the lives of others." Unfortunately, in this case, curiosity is one of the strongest human quality's. Focusing on this very sick individual is is maybe a way of people who feel devastated by this crime can cope. Even today at work the topic of the conversation was who was this guy and why? Understanding the criminal is a way of understanding the crime. It is a travesty that the media reports on this disturbed man before reporting on the wonderful people who innocently lost there lives that day. It is the job of the media to cover all situations that effect our society but I feel we can be a bit forced fed to many details about these very mentally disturbed young men. I believe truly the only way we will ever stop these incident's from happening in our schools is to ban guns and gun possession in this country but, that will never happen. Unfortunately as long as our youth is in Iraq and we are fighting pointless wars, guns will always be a part of our culture.
