I personally believe so. They've voiced views from both campaigns and haven't really been biased. Now depending on where you live this may be subject to change, but overall they have been delivering straight news about each presidential candidate without much of an emphasis on one or the other. But Obama has been potrayed as a celebrity. This may seem biased but so some this may not be a good thing because celebrities are typically seen as shallow and without self worth.

Constraints dictate that the media summarize all the information in a few paragraphs usually, so you never know the whole story.  So they may have been nicer, or meaner to either party & unless you were there you would not know it.  Media is never "fair" because they only have the ability to summarize & give you what "they" feel is important.  It's a hard job.  Next time try to go to an hour speech, write 500 words & see if you feel you were fair, and that's before an editor gets to it.

I think the media has only been fair to the media's pursuit of ratings and ad money. They have sought to create stories where they don't exist on both sides and make controversies and crises out of non issues at every turn.

The news that I watch has been fair for the most part.  But, I don't watch the 24/7 news entertainment networks , FOX CNN, MSNBC etc...so I don't know about them.

I think the coverage has been "even" good and bad on both sides. The Republicans like to try to say that the media has been bias toward Obama but he has gotten plenty of bad press on some issues while it seems McCain has gotten a pass on some things that he shouldn't have.

Yes, one-sided. They have unapogetically been for Obama. They give him a pass on everything and rail on Palin's pregnant 17 year old daughter. They don't check into Obama's background, ideas, associations, anything. They pick apart every Republican. No wonder their ratings are down and their subscriptions are down. What self respecting Republican watches CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, or ABC. And then how about Time, Newsweek, New York Times....I cancelled them all.

I think they have been very fair.  Some people seem to think that the media has given Obama a "free pass", but that just isn't so.

They tore Obama up over the Reverend Wright thing and over his wife's comment about being proud of her country for the first time ever.  They have reported, ad naseum, on his lack of qualifications.  When he made that silly comment in the North East about scared people holding onto their guns, they ran that story for weeks.

Working the media is part of campaigning and when Republicans whine about unfair media coverage what they are really saying is, "We are not very good at working the media".  

McCain obviously didn't fully vette Palin so the media had no choice but to do it for him!  The media didn't jump all over Biden because everything about him is known, but when you "pull a Palin" you can bet the media is going to scramble to find out about her - good and bad.  She got tons of great coverage for her speech last night and rightfully so she has been scrutinized over her lack of experience, the active Trooper-Gate investigation, her daughter's pregnancy, rumors of AIP membership, etc.

Summary:  The coverage is fair and the more the Republicans whine about it (geeze - it has been a major topic at their convention) the more they look weak.

I think it depends on where you live, here in Chicago it is very Democratic, but I know that in Boston it is very Republican, so I guess it just depends on the state.
