  1. Yes

  2. well definitely media plays an important role... coz most of the audience i believe r teenagers n today media has influenced us, the teenagers very much... i think most of the models in television n stuff attract the teens so much that they try 2 copy them... i think today every teen wants 2 look good... they pay more attention 2 their bodies n looks n stuff like that...

  3. Of course it does. This is easier to prove when you compare cultures rather than just the culture you live in.

In the United States the body image is for a slender and almost anorexic woman. Look at the magazines.

In Africa, the body image is for a bigger body.

In some cultures, the focus is on feet or the neck. Body piercings and scars is s**y and attractive.

When people are told what their body should look like, and are told what is attractive then we seem to have this determination to find out whether or not we measure up.

Our media and advertising know that young people are trying to discover who they are, and especially young teenagers. Prying on this fear makes are media profitable and effective. Young people often fear to be different. So, the media tells them what they want to hear, which is how can I be attractive and how can I change myself so that people like me? If it weren't for this fear you would see our media change.

What would happen if our media told us to like ourselves for who we are, and it was what was inside of us and our modesty that made us s**y? What would happen if our media told us not to buy things because "things" would not bring us happiness? They would be out of business and people would be happier discovering who they really are.

Our media prey's upon fear and self-doubt. It is one of our worst enemies in our culture.

  4. Yes by showing pictures of stick thin girls in magazines and stuff..

  5. yes.. they don't accept bigger woman..

they always say love your body blah blah blah...

i'm 15 and i would kill for one of their bodies...

they say those bodies aren't real.. well they have to be if celebrities have them right? Most girls feel they are not accepted if they're not that "right" weight.

  6. Oh! Absolutely but this is nothing new. It has been that way for

    several Generations.

  7. I think so.  Between the ages of 11ish and 17 or 18ish (and sometimes even longer) peer acceptance means a lot (especially to teenage girls).  Because of this, they are going to follow recurring trends they see.  If in every magazine they read there is a story on "How to Loose That Extra Weight" or "Top 10 Tips for a Beautiful Tan" they are going to believe that they need to read those stories and believe in them.  They know their friends are going to be reading them and believing the same things too, so if they don't they won't be accepted.  When they see movie stars who are stick thin and brown constantly appearing on TV shows, in movies, in magazines, their brain is imprinted.  It is much like Pavlov's dogs; if the dog hears the bell, he will assume food is coming and his mouth will water.  With teenagers, when they see a skinny, famous person, they will assume they need to be like that and feel self conscious about their appearance.
