What about the costs? The service? Do you think it was worth it?

Every merger has some good and some bad even.

The management of the new structure naturally be harsh over the new people in - which is bad. If the company gains and profits more than the past, it will be good. Actually, time is the only test to say or comment upon this. However we may hope for the best as in the past, we could see many mergers to be beneficial to the company, the people therein, the Nation and the mankind even.

Not so much..

I know too many people who are jobless because of the merger.  

Just wait until the restrictions put into place by the FCC run out.  Time will tell if it's good or not.
