I couldn't believe it when it got to 3000. I thought something would have to change. It is now at 4000. Do you think America would do something to avoid it reaching 5000?

  1. Nothing is going to prevent little georgie's "legacy"

  2. I agree with AIM HIGH.

  3. I think the war will be over before that can happen.

4,000 is actually very low. Saddam's Iraq lost over 10,000 troops in the 2003 Invasion, and possibly over 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed in the conflict.

Compare 4,000 American soldiers KIA in Iraq to 400,000 in WWII, 200,000 in the Civil War, 100,000 in WWI, 50,000 in Vietnam, and 30,000 in Korea. Even the Revolutionary War had about 7,000 American soldiers KIA. The being said, every loss of life in the war is still a sad affair. And I'm sorry, but I feel much worse for all the civilians who have been killed than any of the soldiers. However, I feel no remorse for the deaths of insurgents and terrorists who continue to kill innocents.

  4. I think it already has and the bush administration is lying to the American public again.

  5. We can certainly hope.

Where are all these pro-life supporters? I bet they could ban together and get something accomplished so that no more innocent lives are lost.

Oh wait -- that's only for fetuses...

  6. It's a strong possibility.

And I say the following as a verteran of the USAF and the USN...

each and every American life lost in war is a crime and a shame, but those are the risks that a person takes when they sign the line and swear-in; they haven't changed since before I raised my right hand in the mid-70's.

There is no draft, it's a all volunteer military.

When you sign-up, you're fully aware that there's a chance you may be called to arms; it's part of the deal.

While 5,000 may sound like a big number to you, think back on the Civil War, when the US population was a mere fraction of what it is now, and some 600,000 soldiers (on both sides) perished in 4+ years.

The problem is Americans don't have the sense of patriotism they had in WW2. JFK and LJB getting the US involved in Vietnam soured everyone on war.

Recruitment is down. Had 9-11 happened in 1945, there'd be lines at each recruiters office waiting to get the SOB's that attacked us.

Now we've got a me-me-me-I-I-I mentality that says, "let someone else do the dirty work", "let someone else get shot at".

Look at the big picture and keep it all in perspective.

Let's hope not another American has to perish at the hands of terrorists.

  7. Items of this gravity should not be the subject of speculation by 15 year olds.

  8. No, I believed the Vice President when he said the Iraqi's would welcome us with open arms....  did he lie to us????

  9. democrats are hoping

you do realize that in the thirty DAY Battle of the Bulge (not Kennedys waistline) there were 20000 allied casualties. About 700 per DAY.

Comparitively we have lost around 800 troops per YEAR in Iraq which shows how well trained and dedicated our military is.

  10. Unlikely.  Numbers like that are actually quite small compared to civilians dead in Iraq during this war, yet that number gets heavily ignored.  If anything, we've learned that lives seem to matter very little in this war if they aren't ours, and even if they are ours we're going to test the limits of how many the American public is willing to tolerate the deaths of.
