It is known that most shallow-water reefs are formed generally between 30-degree N and 30-degree S of the equator. Also, west of the Straits of Gibraltar is in close proximity to this range. So do you suppose that the only evidence left of Atlantis is an atoll?

  1. The source of the Atlantis legend is believed to be the eruption of Santorini/Thera and the destruction of the Minoan civilization.

So...the physical evidence of Atlantis could be considered the remnants of the volcano and the ruins of the Minoans.

  2. Atlantis is a legend most likely based on Santorini, but other hypothesis also suggest, Ireland, the Azores, S. America and Northern Europe as potential Atlantis sites. A prophecy by Edgar Caycee (sp?) suggests the Bahamas (Bimini), but that is unlikely there is no ancient civilizations around there at the time, as the region was first settled by Native Americans after the Atlantis story was written. There are some unusual natural formations there, but no advanced ancient civilizations in the Bahamas
