and the fact that it is a rich nation, despite their appalling human rights record? because the IOC for example would never consider the likes of zimbabwe, iran and other countries, with dictatorships, poor economies and human rights records for the running of the olympics, would they?

not trying to take away the amazing achievements of the competititors in this year's games that is

  1. isnt it obvious?he he

  2. No, it was just their turn. Zimbabwe would be too dangerous with all the things going on.

  3. actually Zimbabwe is not as violent as the media makes it to be, China is more violent coz they even have the genocide and stuff, i think they chose bcoz of the growing economy (but many human rights were trampled upon during the process of the olympic preps)

The economy did play a big role but many many ppl in China r impoverished adn they r pushed behind the curtain and China wants to put this good face to the world and that disgusts me, many ppl r still poor and dying and yet they spend over 40 billion dollars on the olympics just to prove China has improved but they have gone even worse

China i just as violent as the countries u named above but the economy played a role, the world looked the other way bcoz of their economy

  4. I don't know but they have certainly a lot of $ to spend, in fact they are the greatest USA creditor...

  5. Absolutely, zey threw more monies at me and zee IOC zo we zaid "Let us host zee games in Beijing"

  6. I think they like to spread it around geographically. I don't think China is anywhere as bad as Zimbabwe ! Obviously, however it has to go to a city with the economic resources to stage it, which rules out half the world. It may be a case of 'rewarding' China for improving their democratic process, the olympics opens up locals to outside 'influence'.
