  1. I think we found our replacement for Gary Bettman, or a new candidate for the Leafs GM position.

  2. Lidstrom won't be retiring until after 2010 at least. Who else is retiring soon? You make it sound like the entire team is falling apart today. I know you were here when Yzerman, Shanahan, Robitaille, Hull, Fedorov, Coffey, Larionov, Fischer, Murphy, Konstantinov, Fetisov, Joseph, Legace, Hasek and Osgood left. See? It's all good.

  3. no...the guys that are going to be retiring were not monumental in winning the cup this year (hasek, drake, mccarty) and the core is pretty young besides lidstrom, who still should have a few years left.  The wings have been the most consistent team for the past 15 years, i dont expect them to need to rebuild any time soon.

  4. wow. not even gonna touch it. need to know your facts bro

  5. The Wings dont rebuild.  Yes, Lidstrom is getting up there in age, but Detroit has SO many young defensemen waiting to crack the line up its ridiculous.  Their number 2 and 3 defensemen (Rafalski and Kronwall) are locked up for another 5 years.  Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppula, Hudler, and Franzen are all under 30.  Guys like Helm will be replacing the Drapers and Maltbys as time passes.  Howard is expected to take the reins in net after Ozzy, and if not, they just drafted another goalie in the 1st round.  I also am more optimistic about this years draft than I have been since I started following the Wings.  Detroit is pretty much set, there is no need to rebuild, not when you draft as well as Detroit does.

  6. It seems that the Red Wings aren't a build, dominate, get old, build again type team. Hasek retired, and Ozzie is getting old. However, Detroit has hope in Howard, their 21 year old minor goalie, and the guy they just picked up in the first round. Granted there are some old guys, but Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Filpula will take the leadership spots. This will leave room for some good talent to come up. Detroit is just more of a constant rotation and probably will be for awhile.

  7. the reason the devils and red wings have been top in the league for so long is that they rebuild all the time, they dont chase after highpriced rental players, and they get the most out of the picks.  the red wings are rebuilding, but their still winning

  8. no

  9. hahahahahaha NO!  Datsyuk is 29, Zetterberg is 27, Filppula   is only 24, and Franzen is 28.  There those are just a few names a non-Red Wings fan was able to come up with off the top of his head with out even checking their stats first because i already know their great.  If they really needed to they'd just stock up on seventh round picks and draft the 2020 All Star team in one go.

  10. ????????????????????????????????????????...

    they just won the cup

  11. Let me tell you something.  The Wings minor league team is stacked with good prospects.  The thing is that the NHL team is stacked with good players as well.

    The Wings don't rebuild....they reload.

Added: The way that Holland and his crew finds talent, I'd expect the Wings to be just fine when Lidstrom retires.

  12. Man... When are you people going to get it through your heads.  THE WINGS ARE NOT OLD!!!!!!!!!

Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Cleary, Franzen, Filppula, Hudler, Helm, Lebda, Kronwall, Kopecky, Stuart (if he stays), are all 30 or under.  Samuelsson is 32.  Then you have Rafalski, Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Osgood who will be great players for 3 or more years.  Draper, who is the best faceoff guy in the league, and Maltby are still very effective.

NO PROSPECTS????????????  Remember this team has the BEST scouting staff in the league.  They have the best coach in the league.

Jonathan Ericsson, Jakub Kindl, Derek Meech, Kyle Quincey, Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader, Cory Emmerton, Mattias Ritola...  The first six of these players will be regulars some day, with Detroit or not.  Abdelkader and Helm will be the next Draper and Maltby with better scoring touch.  I just remembered also the Finn, Ville Leino, that they just signed during the playoffs too.

Remember the off season last year... the year before... oh and the previous 10 years.  Every year you people ask the same dumb question and say the same stupid comments.  "This Wings team is old and it is time to rebuild, nope... they just retool."  When have they shown anything different.

You should stop believing everything you read or hear from those dumb@ss Penguin fans who said their YOUNG team would skate circles around the OLD Wings.

  13. Not sure where you are getting your info. The Wings are loaded with prospects at the moment. Other teams have repeatedly tryed to pry Jonathon Ericcson form them, he is considered an elite prospect by most. And then there is Derick Meech, Kyle Quincey and Jakob Kindl all also considered high quality prospects. Those were the defensemen and when you consider the ages of Rafalski,Lebda and Kronwall you have 7 quality defenders for several years (this is assuming they dont sign Stuart or another young D). As for forwards not only are Datsyuk and Zetterberg under 30, so are guys like Franzen, Cleary, Fillpula, Hudler and top prospects like Helm, Kopecky and Ritola. Plus they signed the top scoring kid out of the Swedish program (forget his name off the top of my head) and have solid role guys like Abdelkader up and coming. Add in young goalers Howard and new #1 pick McCollum and goaltending should not be an issue. So the depth is there and when you consider the contracts that will come off the books in the next 2 years along with the huge salary cap growth and their incredible ability to stay way under the cap they can add whatever peices they deem needed for a long time. They have more cap room this season than most of the league, they could sign virtually anybody their hearts desire and rest assured it would be someone young with a proven track record if they make a big signing. With their proven ability to find gems under every rock they look under (the kid they picked dead last in the draft is considered an elite Swedish prospect and was drafted in the same round as Zetterberg). Take away Lidstrom and Chelios and this is actually one of the younger teams in the league. Role players like 36 year old McCarty dont help the overall age either but guys like him are easily replaced. They dont need anything resembling a rebuild given the ages of their best players (besides Lidstrom), maybe a reload here or there but with their superior cap management that is easily accomplished. And dont forget, a lot of guys would welcome a chance to wear the Winged Wheel so getting elite players to sign should the need arise wont be a problem either. I would be far more concerned about losing Ken Holland than one of the older players.....the only core players that might retire in the next 2 or 3 years are Lidstrom (signed for 3 more), Chelios (role player now anyways), Osgood and Draper.

  14. rebuild what?? they just won the stanley cup and they have a ton of perfect aged players at their primes. they wont be needing any rebuilding for at LEAST a few years.

  15. Thats what makes HOLLAND so good.... the fact that he replaces 3 to 4 people a year and keeps the team within a decent CAP Limit and still contends! The WINGS will never Rebuild while Hollland is the GM!

  16. They don't need to rebuild... the only thing they really have to worry about is anyone offering filppula a monster offer... maybe a new finnish league?

other than that... there set and they have great depth in case of injuries (knock on wood)
