Many believe that China is trying to show itself off to the world as is now hosting the Olympics. Others think that they are trying to compete with the US. Would you find their opinions true?

  1. In general it's good for relations to know more about another nation, even if they are competitive.

NBC Olympic coverage is about all I see, and I find their attitude and presentations very respectful. The opening ceremonies provided a lot of history that helps to appreciate Chinese culture, but their opening drum scene was, no question about it, quite aggressive. This may not be helpful for relations. I found everything else quite beautiful though, if  competitive (e.g., moon landing program).

  2. Truth be told, I was certainly impressed.

They have given the opening ceremonies a whole new bench mark and it's going to be a very tough act to follow for the next host nation, that's for sure.

They are just trying to put their best face forward - if they were trying to compete with the United States, they were overwhelmingly successful.

  3. I am sorry to say, that no matter if it would be possible for China and America to come to terms. By the time CNN and all the other media trash is finished China will just hate us more.

I can almost bet that we will hear c**p from every talk show host that is sponsered by CNN for at least the next 6 months. I mean , just an example, I have heard already about 6 times, how some of the fireworks for opening cerimonies were pre-recorder. Whats the BIG DEAL.
