Do you think the schools should be showing these students how to use the search engines.?

They have access to computers or they couldn't ask for homework help on answers. Do they know how to Google or is it that they want someone else to do their homework for them? I would bet that 99% of students today know more about computers than I do.

  1. Being a student I truly believe that as we advance in technology, the majority of us instead of relying on intellect, rely on the computer/internet.  Yes, they are excellent tools, but when people start to rely on things too much we are stuck without them.  Oh yes, I can build computers, fix computers, do just about anything with computers; but i can tell you a fact, 97% of my school ONLY knows how to do what THEY want on computers (im, myspace, etc.), and cannot do one thing beneficial besides that..

It's sad, this generation is one that only works for what it wants.

    Not what it needs.

  2. I think the kids already know how to use a search engine.  I figured it out and I taught myself.  I think the problem is that they either can't spell and therefore can't find the info they want, or they don't want to be bothered thinking.  I wonder how they would do if they grew up like us and were forced to go to a library for reference material.

  3. the problem with kids is that they are lazy and they think there is a shortcut around everything they know more about computers than they let on i have had my kids show me things i never knew about on computers but then again if they are too lazy to do it they come ask me thats probably why they ask questions in answers knowing that if someone will answer them they wont have to look themselves

  4. Schools don`t have to show students anything,  Their friends can show them.  Education went into a whole new dimension when Google was invented.  Now there is no excuse for ignorance.

  5. To tell you the truth, I think they are lazy.  You can tell by the question that more than half, especially in math and science, are homework questions  And many times related questions are posted by different people one after the other so maybe some even get in groups and each asks a question.  So why think and tax your brain when some other knowledgeable persons will figure out the answer for you.  Their problem is they may get an answer but how do they know it's the right answer.

And you're right--most kids know how to make computers (and phones) do 1000s of things I'll never figure out.  But if I feel like it I can help them with their homework.  I never had this luxury.

  6. I totally agree with you John.  I think most of them are just lazy, and have a serrious case of "getification."  Getification= get & satisfaction combind into one new word (my own Mother told me the word!).

They want to get the answer RIGHT NOW, with zero work, or effort on their end.

That's why I try to pick and choose the questions I answer.  I try not to answer questions just for some lazy kids homework.  On the other hand, I do tend to answer questions I have a passionate interest in, or really strong feelings.

Of course them I'm just taking advantage of their laziness, to try and pass knowledge and information along to whomever might click on the question.

I actually feel sorry for them.  I adore learning, and keep trying to cram more knowledge into my brain every day.  I hope to be learning new things right up until the day I die.  Heck, I've forgotten more things in my lifetime, than most of these kids have yet learned!
