Do you think the tiebreaker in gymnastics is fair?

why can't they both win gold if they both scored the highest? Why does there even need to be a tiebreaker? there wasn't always, and there isn't in track or swimming unless it's a semifinal they have a run off or swim off. My heart is breaking for Nastia Liukin. She should've scored higher to begin with. Her highest and lowest scores were still higher than the chinese girl's and it's a shame they had to be thrown out and her next lowest score was lower than the other girl's. It's not about one country versus another; Nastia's routine was simply better and she had less visible mistakes. The US women's gymnastics has been screwed over time and time again, starting with the women's team all around. The gymnast who landed out of bounds won the gold medal and Alicia Sacramone, who landed both of her vaults, won nothing.

  1. No, and it's really frustrating to know that they rely on such a faulty tiebreaking system. Awarding two gold medals or having a second routine seems like common sense, so I don't know why they choose to do it another way. The gymnastics results have really been sickening to say the least. I hope Shawn and Nastia kick butt tomorrow on the balance beam ..that would certainly make up for some of the disappointment.

  2. No its not fair. That's what irks me most about watching gymnastics. Why cant it just be like old days where the score was simply out of a perfect 10? And if there is a tie, the two girls should be able to get a gold medal each.  I suppose the chinese in this case wouldn't like that very much.

Yes, that austrailian judge screwed Liukin's score over. AND she gave the chinese gymnast a 9.3, which is not quite deserved.

    Liukin's routine was much better.

  3. the austrailian judge took off 3 tenths from her routine when all the rest judges took off barely a tenth!!

the austrialian judge has been s******g nastia over in past years as well.

    it pisses me off :(

  4. The Chinese wouldn't think of it when it comes to sharing the gold.

    Favour - Host Country

  5. No it's stupid. The IOC should just allow two gold medals like they used to. The tiebreaker was so convoluted that it went down to the third method of tiebreaking when the first to methods still resulted in a tie.

  6. You are soooo right.  Should have been two golds like in other Olympic sports.  If they felt they had to break the tie under the new system of scoring they should have only used the second check of scores to realize it was still a tie and quit there.  To go another step into the scores was completely ridiculous!
