it's been suggested and constantly said that the ukraine is not to be a member of the UE any time soon, is it the economy ? if yes, then what's wrong with it ? and what made similar countries (economically) be more likely to join the european parliament ?

thanks.

  1. its economy and legal issues that prevents one country from joining EU. they have to accept standards of EU in economy, education and law. all countries in transition have to go though that process. also one of issues in post communist countries is status of nationalized property  (houses and lands taken away from 'rich' by communists) which they have to return to original owners. Ecological standards....

it s lots of work for government and sometimes powerful individuals and organizations dont see that as their interest and obstruct that process.

i think that most important is legal system, which has to be corespondent to European. that will encourage foreign investments, and with foreign investments you get lower % of unemployment. problems in economies of countries in transition are mostly about monopoly politics, corruption, production standards, and conflict of interest. as you see that all originates in absence of good legal practice.

  2. YES i think the ukraine will join the european union.  I heard that it will join in about 2020.  the reason it cant join is because it is either the first or secont poorest country in europe, and it is still recovering from chernobyl.
