Question:

Do you think the word "love" has lost its edge?

I mean, the word is overused in casual conversation these days to describe things other than passionate affection for another person. It's used to describe obsessions about Hannah Montana, to articulate the relationship between acquaintances, etc.

  1. Hey Nouget. =]

As for me, my personal thought is it depends. Some people use love very casually. They may use it as a form of greeting ("Hello Love"), a closer ("Love,"), they may even use it as an obsession ("OH MY GOD, I LOVE THE JONAS BROTHERS!"), etc.

Others (like myself), use it as a strong word. I have only a few friends I can say that I love, and only a few people I feel love for.

So it's not that it's lost it's edge, it's just a word that has been abused by some people who view it as a word; nothing more.

It's like "g*y". g*y means happy, or can refer to someone who is homosexual (likes the same gender). However I see so many teens nowadays that use "g*y" to refer to something as stupid.

In short, words are words. For some words mean nothing, and for others words can mean something. It depends on the speaker, and the reciever, not the majority. If someone says "I love you" it can either mean nothing (other than maybe being sweet to you), or it can be something that could instantly change your mood (i.e. from sad to happy).
