Do you think the world is going to end because of global warming?

We were seeing the vid of the day after tommorow at Stanford. Yes it was exaggerated but, it opened by eyes (I am even saving $ for a honda clarity FXC that runs on hydrogen now). Look, for one thing our scientists say freash water will end. The sun is melting the ice (where we get fresh water) and it is mixing it with salt water; we can't drink salt water. Next, the ozone layer. We are destroying it and for millions of reasons. What do you think will come of our planet?

  1. I agree, global warming is harming our planet and our natural resources (especially fresh water supply) but I'm not all that worried about it. This planet has had a warming period followed by a cooling trend (a.k.a ice age) repeatedly since this planet came into existence, so it's pretty much an inevitable cycle. This has happened before, and humans survived the last ice age. So yes, I am concerned, and yes, I think we should find ways to slow down the process of global warming, but I don't think it's the end of the planet or the human race.

  2. global warming wont kill us...  only da next generation

  3. i personally think that global warming is not as bad as it is sold out for. the earth has up and down patterns (high temp, low temp) and i think our pattern is just changing  a bit. I still think people should be more enviormental, but not freak out about it

  4. No.  First, compared to many periods of the geological past, we are more in an ice age than we are in a high temperature age.  The whole system is so unbelievably complex that the scientists can't really be sure of anything.

A few things to keep in mind:

    a) Scientists benefit (through grants, etc.) when people and governments get concerned about stuff that can be studied.

    b) Politicians love to have "problems" that people get excited about.  It gives them more freedom to raise taxes and to find money in many deep pockets.

    c) The oceans appear to be cooling recently.  Imagine what a massive effect the temperature of the earth's vast waters can have on climate.

    d) The sun's output varies from year to year.  We don't have any way to affect what the sun does.  We are at its "mercy".

    e) One of the laws of nature that we tend to disregard is that when some phenomenon occurs, its effect usually sets off other things which tend to counteract the phenomenon.  If a huge amount of climatic energy is dispelled in one region, then a "space" is opened for surrounding energetic processes to spill into the space.  When a lot of carbon dioxide is dumped into the atmosphere, vegetation flourishes through photosynthesis.  This, in turn, "eats up" the carbon dioxide.

  5. I loved the movie but hated it too.   It's science was flawed and it didn't open my eyes to much, but it was entertaining.

  6. i read that 3/4th of accredited scientist around the world DO NOT believe in global warming themselves....they said you should worry more about an astroid or large meteor   hitting earth.

how come other countries are not so involved in it?...thats a big hint right there.
