Better looking. I have heard it had some advantages in limited areas, but overall the F-22 is better.

No.  I base that decision solely on the number of orders the USAF placed for each aircraft.  In that category, the F-22 is the king!

The F-22 was more practical even as a prototype and Boeing historically favored Lockheed Martin over Northrop.

It was certainly more unconventional looking and in the fly-off I was pulling for the YF-23. The under wing intakes and above wing exhaust, the trapezoidal wing, and double canted tail make it look far more unusual than the yf-22.  Performance wise they were were similar.

The Yf-23 developed an unexplained visible wingtip vortex when the aircraft made turns at certain speeds during high speed maneuvering. This was seen as a design flaw because it would have made the aircraft more visible when it was operating in the stealth mode.

Yes in many aspect, but when it comes to millitary contracts politic is more important.

The YF-23 was the better aircraft when it came to stealth and speed.  The YF-22 was the better aircraft in other area's.  In all honesty it became 'which one do I like better' for those in the choosing.

If it had been better it would have been ordered instead of the f22.

I believe there was an air-intake issue with the 23 in pitch-up maneuvers and tight turns. (you can see that the intakes are under the leading edge of the wing.)

Remember that the performance of the airplane AND its maintainability AND its cost have to be taken into consideration.
