  1. We just had the same conversation in work this morning, but not about Gt yarmouth of course, but my argument was, and remains, they are a lot less of an eye sore than those electric pylon towers all over the country side.

Apparently you can get wave turbines now, which are a lot less visible

  2. Funny how we all want the lights to come on when we flick the switch but many don't want the means of generating that electricity... at least not in their back yards.

A wind farm has recently been set up on Scout Moor within sight of my house and I think the turbines look great. They have a grace and elegance all of their own.

As has already been stated they are infinitely better to look at than a dirty great big coal, gas or nuclear power station.

  3. I'm totally with Richard D on this.

They are a useless exercise designed to show we are doing 'something' about global warming and pollution but their manufacture, installation and maintenance require as much if not more energy than the energy they are meant to replace.

Although we all have misgivings and concerns about nuclear power that is the only realistic way to go at present.

  4. I think wind turbines look cool.  At any rate, they look alot better than a nuclear power station!

    hmm..not that bad

  6. Don't know about an eyesore cause at least they look like flowers, maybe they should colour them, we have them here to but not in the water, they are in fields all over the country, unfortunately we don't have more of them and less of those horrid looking mobile towers lol! :)

  7. Absolutely, and they are absolutely useless as well.

They are a HUGE con trick. They will never even recover the energy cost of construction, let alone produce any meaningful amounts of power.

This is a problem when we elect stupid and gullible people, who can be charmed by the modern-day snake oil salesmen.

Unfortunately, you need nuclear power stations for base load, because wind turbines have a reliability factor, effectively, of zero.

  8. Nope.  The big holes in the Amazon Rain Forrest, the excessive use of lights in Las Vegas, the masses of people living in squalor in India, now there are some eyesores for you.
