Question:

Do you think there are any flaws within western astrology?

Something you think the astrologers of the past made a mistake on? I do. Probably many will disagree with me on this but I think the idea that the sign that is opposite from yours is not compatible with you like many say it is. I don't think the saying "opposites attract" apply here relationship-wise. In chinese astrology the animal sign that is opposite from yours is actually your mortal enemy. I think the same applies to western signs. I can say this only comes from my own as well as my own friends experiences with signs opposite of us. Which they caused nothing but trouble for us.

Those that believe there is some truth in astrology, do you see any other flaws?

  1. Hi John

In western astrology, the opposite sign relates to qualities you would like to have or, you do have but they are not expressed properly.

Since when do two opposite signs of the same element be in conflict with each other ? Fire/Air  Earth / Water....

Opposites attract but with a compromise just like anything else.

  2. There sure could be.....

Having an open mind works the best ultimately otherwise nothing would ever progress.

but serious astrologers are always searching, debunking and basically try to learn.

I have never been that sure myself about planets in detriments, fall etc..

They could come from old astrology thoughts.

I think serious astrologers admit that there is a lot to be debunked.

There is still so much to discover anyway.........I wish vedic, chinese and western astrology could have a debate..we might learn a lot from each other.

Just consider the old battle between Placidus and Koch houses.....In the US they seem to prefer Placidus but elsewhere..Koch is the chosen one..

And people tend to blame this and that transit...it is like a band aid really or just an excuse.

I think most Westerners when it comes to astrology, have those seemingly deep and profound thoughts.....but it is like leaving a house. They shut the door and out goes what they learnt or trying to portray themselves online anyway.

Seems they do not explore much besides their own belly button.

Have been accused of "changing my mind" by so called " proficient and acknowledged people.........hello....I always said that I was Sag with Gem rising ( mutable)...so at the end it showed to me that the ego manifested itself and certainly NOT any knowledge of astrology.

I think people need to explore other disciplines..yoga..whatever......I have always had real doubts about people who were not interested in other fields as well anyway........

    OK. my rant for tonight

  3. The biggest flaw is that their zodiac is 23º inaccurate!

The idea however that the opposite sign from yours is not compatible is quite odd! The sign opposite from yours is the 7th House, in the most fundamental sense. And the 7th House indicates who you are attracted too.

However another flaw in western astrology is that they place too much importance on the Signs: Aries, Taurus, etc... The signs are actually only the fields in which the planets act. It is the planets who are truly important in a horoscope.

So again, the sign opposite yours is not fundamentally important. What IS fundamentally important (in terms of attraction and compatibility) is the PLANET who rules the sign opposite yours. THAT will determine the nature of the people you best form relationships with.

  4. Certainly there are flaws in the tenets of Western astrology, as with any study or discipline.

Any collection of human knowledge will be flawed as such. Pure sciences are not exempt either.

I believe that this is why formal education in such matters, without the use of discretion, humility, and common sense by the astrologer, tends to propagate such flaws.

What one learns from "professors" is not always right, and should always be viewed through the lens of common sense.

  5. I believe astrology has something to offer but is just as limited as reading the bible with man's interpretation of if.  The part of astrology that is based on the position of the moon, stars and tides bear some truth and this is supported by science.  People do appear to be affected by tides, gravitational pulling the sun, moon and stars - our bodies do change physiological and we do experience different brain waves based on celestial activity.  Which is why people equate the full moon with human madness.  A person can change their latitude by climbing a high mountain where by a dominate gene manifest itself - meaning you can go up the mountain without diabetes but return with it just because you went up the mountain that contained the "celestial" pulls to bring out something that would have stayed dormant.  I have studied my body enough to pinpoint what outside or environmental behaviors make me  change.  Those werewolf movies, which I hate do have some truth about man's ability to change based on exposure to various elements - the wolf bite part is c**p unless its rabid.
