Britain is 10% smaller than Japan. Japan is 70% mountainous on a seismic fault line meaning its dangerous to build on steep hillsides. The population is about 125 million - a lot more than double the UK population. Japan doesn't bother trying to be a world leader with nuclear weapons. Its a low tax society (10% base rate) and while industry bosses do earn a lot, the ratio between the lowest and highest paid is a lot narrower.
The population has a 99% literacy rate despite having a complex written language and the country is thankfully free of chavs puking and fighting in city centres at the weekend.
I think a lot of people who complain about immigration tend to be lazy bums who hate the idea of someone else working hard to better their life and don't have the guts or imagination to do something about it.
