  1. Cooking oil and sugar, meal and milk, most staples aare controlled like OPEC, the biggest corporations pay to play...to grab and hold market share.

  2. cars

  3. They should look at the price of petrol too as Sasol makes half the petrol in SA from SA coal.....

  4. Here in the Eastern Cape I know Parmalat and I think Dairy bell are under investigation for fixing the prices of milk and butter. As for meat there is definitely something going on. Farmers get paid R 22,00 a kilo for mutton but the shops are selling it for R 69 - 89 per kilo. There was an article in the Weekend Post not long ago about the farmers complaining they are only getting paid R 22 per kilo and not making any profit at all and that AgriSa is going to investigate. i buy a whole sheep/lamb at a time directly from the farmer. It is much cheaper they cut it up for me and even put it in plastic bags and I only pay for the meat I want ie I do not pay for the head, "afval" etc. It depends I usually pay R34 per kilo and you get about 23 - 25 kilos out of a big sheep so a h**l of a lot of meat for under a R 1000.

  5. Other goods?

At this rate its all goods that I think are getting a bit of an illegal adjustment. Its impossible to do monthly grocery on just a R1000 these days. I mean two adults and one infant cant really need more than a R1000 to get by in a month. By the third week we're already shopping again.... Reb goes through diapers and purity like he's crazy, as for the stick thin dad and I, no one would believe we need at least 2k to get through the month. Once saw a back room witth the rent price of R2.5k excl water and electricity... have you ever/ I'm talking about a one room here... sad.
